No driver is or has ever been forced to give time away for free, we do it on our own free will.
I only did box freight for app 6 months and this is one of the main reasons, there are other ways to truck where this is not a concern, if a guy doesn't like it.
If it was changed to where you had to stay on duty, it would just come out of the drivers pocket, then we would actually know what giving our time away is.

I've been paid for every moment of my time since 2007. I won't stand for that level of time wasted.

Most places let you check in early. Some have partking you can wait till you delivery time. We can have more accurate GPS on the ELDs. Don't you want to close the loophole of sleeper time or off duty time when driver are really working ?

Insist that all COMPANY drivers be paid by the hour and not by mileage or percentage

be sure to ask the government why they insist on wasting our time.

I don't really know what a reasonable and equitable amount per hour would , I do know of a local company starts their drivers at $12.00 per hour . Their drivers are probably averaging over 50,000 per year. I also live in a state with a very low average income per individual, and probably lower cost of living .

Why not? Is that beyond the realm of possibility? I mean when you are driving at top speed, you are probably making at least $30 per hour. You just don't get paid for any of the rest of your time.

That's the pay at my company, so why not? And this is automotive freight, which is notoriously cheap....
