I wish some one would pay for my CDL school :(. I'm having to bust my ### at work to save up for it. Paid 1/2 of it so far though! But I love the feel of accomplishing what I set, like paying for school for myself by working. Getting a CDL, starting the lifestyle, and doing great as a driver. These are some of my goals I also will achieve. (I say will, instead of hopefully because to me, hope sounds worse then will as it sounds like I'm just "WISHING" for it to happen without the work.)

I would strongly suggest anyone that is wanting to drive a truck to get company paid training. If you spend 3, 4, 5 or even 6 grand out of your own pocket to get your CDL, then hate driving the truck. Or can't handle traffic, or a-holes that think they always have the right away, or just because the corner of their plastic bumper fits in front of you, that is their "spot" on the da** highway.....yea, I just came all the way down I95 from CT to the house in NC....lol...i'll calm down..lol

I am glad something is being done. It is a shame how some of the companies with driver training school is turning out drivers like puppy mills.

I ran across a lady driver who should not have been in the truck alone. She was with a trainer for 3 wks, then turned out by herself.

I learned how to drive in 1977 (at the age of 17). Although I have taken a few years off here and there to raise my kids, I am out here running solo. Even in my off years, I would still go with hubby on occasion, so I have not been completely out of it when I was off. I don't profess to know it all, and the day that I do is when I need to get out of this truck (just my opinion).

Trucking is not what is was back in the 80's or 90's. It is a whole new ballgame these days.

FYI... when I started driving in the late 70's, I had to be 10 times better than a man, just because I was a woman. Fair, maybe not, but I take pride in doing the job myself. I did have a stubborn trailer one day that I was having trouble getting the tandems to unlock, and another driver offered to help. I did appreciate the help, but I would have gotten the job done by myself, just not as fast.

Also remembering the "old" days, what happened to drivers helping other drivers ??? Now it is each person for their own. No one wants to take the time to offer a hand. I can remember people saying "thank goodness that trucker stopped and helped me". Hell, we don't even stop and help each other anymore. It is sad. More on this rant later.

    Have a good day all!

The CDL was to get All the [BAD DRIVERS] off the road. New hours of Service Was going to make hwys safer. Electronic Logs were going to make things safer. CSA 2010 and on and on. The ONLY thing this will do is further restrict the hardest workers in the US and add more goverment control to this Industry. So far since the CDL was started the only people to get more money has been the goverment and CROOKED DMV workers!

You need to understand that it isn't the broker that is screwing you. If you take a cheap load then it is you who are screwing yourself. You don't have to take a load for a cheap rate, not with rates where they are today. You can't blame the broker nor can you blame the shipper. It is the one who agrees to haul the load who is to blame. No one forces you to haul a cheap load. I have yet to have a broker to force me to take a load for a cheap rate. If I don't get the rate that I want, then I don't take the load. If the broker doesn't want to pay more, then I don't haul the load. If I can't get a decent rate out of a particular area then I will deadhead out. I refuse to haul cheap freight. It is my choice as to what goes on my truck as it is for everyone who owns a truck. You either negotiate a rate you need, sit or deadhead out to a better area. Your choice.

And let,s not forget all of the drivers who went out and bought,TWIT CARDS to get into our ports safely! A. Hitler after jewish people, Gypsys were the second largest group he had murdered, and our goverment does not want a large group of people that it has no control over roaming the countryside.

Just read how you guys are so happy about the feds forcing that law about the auto down the states neck. It will make the rates so much better.......right all y'all cry all the time because the rates have stayed the same for so long. Oh it will help....put more money in the pockets of the government. Why not offer to teach a guy every once in a while. That #####Ing law would have put a real damper on me getting started. But hell if y'all think the government can fix everything.....keep HOPEing it will CHANGE. You know what gets you better rates getting a better job.
