The impression I got was that the flatbed side (System) had more flexibility in where you are based. When I worked for the tanker division (JJWilliams) it seemed you had to be out of a few certain locations. But it doesn't hurt to ask.
Seems like you should be able to find some company that hauls containers to the ports. I know Anderson and a few others up in Ellensburg were advertising for drivers not long ago. They take hay, squeeze it tight and load it into containers to ship overseas. Hay. Doesn't make economic sense to me but what do I know.

Get every endorsement including TWIC. Seems like you are on track. There are some over here in Spokane that would bring you on but it’s a bit of a drive for you.

Since my area isn’t highly populated, we use a “3rd party testing” system instead of testing directly with the state. Today was my appointment and I passed with only a couple points taken off. The Tester asked me after it was over if I was going to be looking for a job and said he had a couple places that he would give a reference on me to and he was sure both would offer me a spot. Also, tomorrow morning I’m going to do a run with a manufactured home company to see what that’s like. We talked money and I can’t afford to live on what they pay but it sounds kind of interesting so I told him I could probably work part time.

Well... Moving manufactured homes was fun, but it won’t pay the bills. Really interesting experience- owner said 2 guys build a house in an 8 hour shift and 3 days later it’s finished and ready to deliver. Super nice people and I told him to call me and I could do some part time or fill in stuff but the hourly wage and also they average 40 hours a week isn’t enough. Oh well I had fun driving a house down the road!
