Good to hear from you PSUMoose! Glad to hear you are doing well and seems as if you really enjoy it out there! Wow! Blowing a steer, huh! Well you seem to have some good instinct because you survived it and kept the truck upright! I am sure Central is glad about that. Too bad you don't get safety bonuses for near misses or saving the truck!
Its nice when you turn in trip packs late and they add up to the next weeks bills. Its like finding money!
Hope you are prepared for old man winter. Make sure you are stocked up with all the necessary supplies. Extra food, water, clothes, etc... Maybe a couple bags of ice melt. Make sure you have a set of long jumper cables too. Batteries tend to go bad in the winter. You can jump off the reefer or vice-versa. Keep a bottle of anti-gel to. You probably won't need it for the truck but sometimes because the reefer tank is so far away from a heat source it tends to gel. Central should provide you with some if not use a Com-Check. Now is a really good time to make sure you have all your chains and that they are untangled and sorted out. I usually kept them in a dry box too so that they aren't all rusted and frozen together.
Anyway man, great job out there, drive safe and get off the road if you have doubt in the road conditions. Take care!

Glad you are enjoying PSU nice to hear from you. Sorry to hear about all the tire problems but glad you made it through a blown steer safely. I sitting at crswvc waiting on my truck to get fixed. Been here for 35 hours now and still not done. Was only 14 hrs from delivery and then heading home for a some home time. Now will have to find another load when truck is done and thinking about staying out for a another week or two before home time so have money in the bank. Like Chompi said get ready for winter if you haven't already. You can put the gel on your comdata card.

I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread as well as the "Central Refrigerated Truck Stop". You all inspired me to select Central as my first choice for CDL training (it helped that I live in southern CA and only an hour away from Fontana). I hope to get thru training and on the road as soon as possible. If you have any info or additional tips I am all ears and would greatfully accept any and all help offered.
Thanks to all,
Looking forward to meeting as many of you out on the road as possible.

Thank you to all the contributors to this thread! I live i FL and was considering all my options when I found this thread. I completed my application online today and got an Email back in 5 min. . The discussion on this thread has given me the encouragement to(hopefully) get my new career underway soon. Being separated from my family for 2 months will be the toughest, but short term sacrifice leads to long term rewards. Tell the truth, work hard, pay attention and be safe. Wish me good fortune and
Stay Safe. I will also try to post my experiences. Thanks again, you've been a great help to a Navy vet and former firefighter!Spacecoast Thanks this. -
I was told the full program in Conley was only for Georgia residents because of licensing laws. I was going to take my Fl Combo to get my A permit(learners) this week. Anyone know if it will save me time or money? It's free to take in Fl so I may take it for practice anyway. I hope the plane ticket thing is true. Sitting on a G-hound for 50+ hrs is not my idea of fun, although getting rubbed on by TSA In the no rights zone isn't much fun either. HaHa
Question- What have guys been getting in after getting cut loose for Solo? -
Not sure about the plane ticket but I think they shy away from it now and deal with Greyhound. As far as the permit goes depends on the laws in your state. If the CDL is transferable then go for it. If it's free take the test even if you have to do it again in another state then you are that much ahead of the game.
I'm glad that this thread has helped others out that was the reason for starting the thread. As I am out on the road now don't always have the time to check the thread but I welcome anyone to post their own experince. We all learn different and the more post the better it will help out all the newbies.Jpatt Thanks this. -
Are you currently in the reserve now? I am in the Marine corps reserve and trying to find out how that will work with training and being on the road. I plan on doing my 2 weeks early in the year so in may I should be able to knock out my training before i have to report in for another drill. Any input?
Been reading through and want to thank all you guys for your input. Ive been collecting information the past couple of weeks. I'm no where near starting, (wont be 21 until may) but trying to get all the info that i can now. My choices are as follows:
Central Refrigerated
Swift
Prime
I live in eastern NC and so far have been told i shouldn't have a problem getting home or getting loads out. Really excited and ready to call recruiter but I know they will probably not even talk to me until i am closer to my start time. guess i'm just gonna have to be patient. Any input would be appreciated.
