Big Al, lets face it. In todays industry how many training companies do you hear about that are AMAZING??? OR Actually train someone the right way?? I think these days you just have to be able to mentally handle the company you choose until you have the experience so that you may select the "right company" for yourself.

Unless someone is lucky enough to find an o/o or mom n pop to be trained by, I feel any company you choose to learn at is going to try ones mind!!!!!

If you live in their hiring area, Millis is a good company. If you find your own school there a re lots of OK companies that you can go to. It just takes a little research.

I have heard of Millis and their school is a couple of hours from me but they want $500 upfront and I don't have that kind of extra cash laying around right now. Actually they were my first choice. But with other schools only wanting $100-$165 to start, I decided to look at them a bit. I would really love to go to Millis; I already applied with them and everything.

Hey how is it going with swift? :biggrin_25524:
I used to work for this company for almost two years and with all honesty there are good things and not so good things that I can tell you about it, to begin with is the biggest trucking company in the industry, about 19000 drivers including about 3000 O/O's, this company is so busy with loads, but they have so many drivers that constantly you have to Tcall loads from shippers to other terminal withing the company to give miles to other drivers, the first couple of months are the worse, but you have to prove your self with this company and after that things get a little bit better, they have about 40 swift terminals around the country (including some drop yards) phoenix terminal (main terminal ) is great, except the showers that are a little old, but everything else is good and big, well organize if you know what you need.- One major problems is they ussually don't get you home on time, in one occasion I was delayed about 10 days, finally I made it home, I was working out of Albuquerque terminal and let me tell you there are some good driver's manager there and they will treat you with respect, particularly Harvey, if your home terminal is phoenix I think you will regret it, but you can always pick another terminal and do the switch, I did all 48 and they kept me busy running alot of miles.- One big problem is that they won't let you idle the truck, they give you about 20% which is nothing if you need to keep yourself cool in the summer time and are always reminding you to keep idle down (every day). any way I could go on and on with this company but I will tell you, give it a try, is a good starting company, particularly if you just got out of training school.- if anybody need more info about this company, let me know, I will be happy to add to my post. be safe out there.:biggrin_255:

How long ago did you work there? What were some of the lowest miles you got in a week doing all 48? If you couldn't idle, how did you keep cool in the summer (especially since this year is hot already!)? Sorry to bombard you but just trying to do my research...

Millis will work with you on that 500. I talked to them last year and they were willing to waive it for me, but I couldn't go at the time due to some unforseen events. Eventually went to school and got my cdl on my own. Give them a call and explain your situation. They will work with you if they are willing to hire you.

To answer your questions I quit about 4 months in good terms, usually between 2000 and 2500 miles a week, very seldon you get 3000, you start about .26 but pretty soon you are making around .34 n this is based on miles, with the idle you have to put up with the heat or idle and hear about from DM, hopefully they will keep you busy running...good luck out there.
