Cool men... Well this site helped me know what to expect because I did the same thing you're doing, following someone who is going thru what I am getting ready for. I hope l can give you a good insight of Swift before you start. So feel free to follow and ask questions. Good luck too you and maybe I will see you on the road.

Wow I dont know when the last time I woke up before the Sun. My class and I just made it to Orientation with Swift. A small class of 13 are here everyone with looks of wonder on their face. Today consist of the DOT physical and drug screening. Then l hear that we have to do a road tesy as well. I just hope there is no backing in the test, I still need practice... Well l have to start so update after class to explain all.

Ok its lunch time one hour... They gave us free lunch, big burgers from Tams. (trying to get me fat already). A whole lot of paperwork was done just now, and l took my road test with a Swift trainer. Four rights is all we did, I guess they were just making sure when can shift, and handle 53ft, of course I nailed it. (i love to shift). Alot of information is thrown at you from saftey, to logs, all the way to paydays. Everything was done right here, physical, drug test, all happen at the terminal. Oh yeah, the size of the class decreased from twenty to fifthteen in ten minutes. Not able to pass the road testing because of not being trained on ten speeds, some only did nine speeds and ten super speeds, (whatever that is). And others left because they speak ah no english... Well im here still, missing my family, but I am doing good and trying to stay focus without throwing in the towel.

    Update after skool.....

A 10 super speed is what makes time travel possible.

I to am talking to a recruiter for Swift, suppose to hear something tomorrow after my application has been verified. I am gald you have posted this thread. I was trained at my CDL school on the ten speeds and I use to drive the old duece and a halfs and old 5 tons in the Army back in the early 90's, the trucks were fromthe 50's and 60's and they had to be double clutched and if you drive them you can drive anything. I love to shift gears also. I was wondering how much you are being paid for orientation and how much you will be paid for the training and how many weeks they told you it would take to be trained.

Good job surviving the initial craziness. Thats a crazy process that one can pack for the long haul and then not survive the first hour

Hey Truckers. Let me update you on my orientation status so far. Well, it's day two and more and more paperwork was giving to us. The second day consist of learning about safety, kingpin locks, we talked to a DOT officer about laws, and we went over logs. I use to say that paperless logs are better, but now l take that back. There is no cheating with logs if a computer is running it...

I hope l answer the questions that l read from post. Forgive me and ask again if l missed one.

Swift is a great company so far. The staff is very nice making sure we are taking care of. I don't believe all the bad crap I heard about this company before coming here. Someone asked about pay. Dude you are right Swift has some good benefits. You will be paid $450.00 every Tuesday when you are on with your mentor. They make sure that if you are ready to start shifting on the last day of the three day orientation (thursday), they well have a mentor ready for you right after class. Im back at the hotel packing up because im sure I will be driving tomorrow night with my mentor. Oh yeah, the training with your mentor is not base on weeks, 240hrs of driving must be done before you go solo. So if you drive ten hours a day, you can be done in 24 days. It use to be a must of six weeks, but now only those hours are needed to move on. Then you will have to go on a road test with Swift supervisor. Well I hope I touched on every question asked. Please I would love to help someone coming along with swift and wants an insight before going.... Bye drivers and I am so excited that l maybe on the road by tomorrow nite....
