Depending on if your truck is automatic or not, it could either be on the floor to your far left or in the middle between the other two... it is called a brake pedal. This handy device actuall assists by increasing your following distance and keeps you away from those male bonding testerone sporting events which usually end up in a murderous situation on the highway. Gee, we just learned something new today as a so-called professional driver.

Yepper, then the idiot tailgating you that you can't see,,,,,,,,,well you get the picture, and not always a fourwheeler either.:biggrin_25512:
Best bet is to just backoff the fuel and gradually slow down. Sooner or later the situation will remedy itself, patience driver, patience.

The driver knew he hit someone, but was going to leave the scene. This is an on going thing. Mostly because there driving record is already horse S _ _ T. In the streets of Chicago, almost every day, someone is WALKING across the street, and someone hits them and just keeps going. Many get killed, and even children get run over and they just take off. If I had my way, and we caught up with them, Get a firing squad ready.

    johnday and Tazz Thank this.

Some of the problem might be the schooling! I just obtained my CDL and a couple days before testing I was out with an instructor who was getting short with me because as soon as I saw tail lights or stop lights, I began to slow down. I couldn't understand why I would be instructed to react slower. I guess that's different from following distance but its the same principle since it plays a roll in how the traffic behind you reacts.

a brake pedal doesnt increase following distance for crap when another car or truck is claiming your open area---might as well use the key for following distance--just dont turn the truck on
the idea of having your following distance is great--and i wish it was always there--but what i am saying is--you leave the room and somebody will pull in there
its human nature--just watch vehicles in the road--they like to travel in packs---4 or 5 vehicles --then nothing for about 1/2 mile--now you can set up and have all the following distance you want---but sooner or later somebody is going to jump in that hole

it must be--you could be in the middle of no where by yourself--and sure as sh__ soon you will end up with one vehicle tailgating you and one pull right in front of your bumper

    johnday Thanks this.
