I keep my foot on the gas and use my left and push on the brake just enough for the lights to come on. If they still don't get the hint I'll slow enough so they have to pass and then I let my trailer drift. Not pro I know, but it's NY afterall.

Tailgating, in my opinion, should be a violent offense. Similar to assault.
You as well as myself, know that people tailgate to say "MOVE!!!". It is willful and dangerous, more so in a rig.

IF, a big IF, people remember what lanes are for what rate of travel, we might have safer traffic again

    Right lane = slow traffic
Middle lane = A bit faster
Left lane = GET OUT OF THE WAY, I GOTTA GO

Now I know the left lane, in most 3 lane places we are banned from (assbackwards logic) so it is really a two lane.
As most of you know companys limit the speed of their trucks, so show some common sense when Swift starts around JB :D. Also, Swift, don't wait til the last minute to jump in the left lane when a faster truck is coming up on you, you are slow and you must drive accordingly.

There is NO GOOD REASON to tailgate, no matter what you are driving.
    Never take away your out!
I have been in this game since '85, and I NEVER tailgate. I do however get the MORON who comes over to close, yes that includes 18s too.
I either move to the left, back out of it or lay on the horn BEFORE they do it. I even yell at the trucks, "I need more than 15 feet dummy!".
I have been cussed out, yelled at and brake checked by 18s for this. I even had one idiot wave a knife at me. I laughed and explained "never bring a knife to a gun fight moron". Yes I do pack. Of course he called me a few choice names and went on his biz.

Road rage is all about the children and their "bully" mentality, again that is why I pack.

The main reason I have made a conscientious effort to NOT follow to close is liability reasons, I do not want to go to prison or lose everything I own to show someone "I am bigger than you".

As for the 4-wheeler, You tailgating a big rig, and having the idea "I wont hurt him if I hit him" is not the point. If you rear end him, you just cost him a few hours of unpaid labor, an "incident" on his employment record, It is the law to release ANY incidents, at fault or not. And the aggravation of having to sit on the side of the road, and danger if it is on the interstate.

Driving is a privilege, not a right

Outsider, You're right on about tailgating. But I hate to tell you this but you might be in bigger trouble with that firearm than someone tailgating if you're caught.

Where do you live that you never have had a car or truck follow to close? I am not trying to be funny when i say this, the moon?

I did mention unless it is RUSH HOUR. I never advocated tailgating, but merely pointing out ways to prevent it when traffic is not heavy. I live in Dallas and I see goofballs hogging the left lanes for no reason and forcing faster traffic to weave and cut around on the right. All this nonsense would be avoided if slower traffic moved or kept right. I agree, flashing your lights is supposed to be a safer way of indicating you want to pass rather than tailgating. Unfortunately there are idiots that take it personally and don't move over when they can and let faster traffic by.

    Concealed Carry Permit my friend.
I can carry in all but 17 states, and I generally don't go to those states.
I have had to show a few DOT my permit and inform them if and where I was packing. Never have I had an issue with this.
Hell I even checked a partial arsenal in at Anniston Army Depot (3 pistols, and 2 rifles, one of them a 700 yard + "sniper")
anyways wrong topic for this thread.

This topic has been discussed at length on different groups even involving LEO's and I think you're wrong my friend. There is no one permit to allow you you to carry a concealed weapon in other states than issued in. Not since I had mine away. And since you bragged about "Packing" you brought the matter to this group. I wouldn't want a new driver to think he can just carry a weapon to solve his problems. I would bet that if you're a company driver you company doesn't allow it either. But it's you bussiness to do what you want and if you need a gun to settle you problems go right ahead. But I'd give odds if you ever fired it you'd never drive again.

I also carry, I don't brandish it, or threaten anyone with it, it's there as a last resort facing a life threating situation.. not to show some jerk on the Hwy... in 20 years on the road it has never been needed. I try not to place myself or truck in harms way, I do go into some less than desirable areas, but staying in the loading/unloading areas and not wandering around goes a long way to maintain you're safety... same goes for truck stops, I don't hang around them either.

    GasHauler and Joethemechanic,
You are both very incorrect, you obviously have the computers and the skills to do the research, why don't you do that before accusing another of ignorance or lying... try this site; [SIZE=-1]packing.org..it should clear up the falsehoods you were led to believe.
I know this is off topic but these kind of mis truths need to be addressed.
