    Ya.

And sometimes, no matter how much you plan and prepare -
Life simply throws you a curve ball.

You can't simply 'set yourself up' for whatever you want in life, because you are not really in control of anything.

Fontana, despite it's shortcomings is one of my favorite terminals. No shop or parts department, but that keeps the traffic down. Parking is tight, you either know (or learn) how to back or you find somewhere else. The driver's lounge is one of the newer ones and quite nice. Bathroom and showers are (by terminal standards) first rate. AND, there are places to eat and convience stores a 10 minute walk away.

Fontana frequently has the cheapest fuel in CA.

I am a mentor out of Fontana and don't have a student. I can take you after the Christmas holiday. Let me know if you are interested.

I agree, you gotta be prepared for the worst. Like having a credit card with enough money on it to rent a car to take you back home if you really need it.

My point was originally. The cycle I have been in, I would quit one trucking job with a pocket full of money. Then the money runs out, and I start another orientation completely broke, waiting to get my first cash advance so I can live again. I will admit it was a bad cycle to be in, but I am sure in orientation,, most of the guys starting out are just like I was, completely and totally broke. So sitting for days or even longer without no income in that situation is a real bad thing.

Now as far as freight volumes go. Yes I have had lived thro the 'feast and famine' cycles in trucking.

Have money in the bank, is all I can say.

Fontana is also one of my favs. The second shift guys actually talk to you at the window. There is a latino caterer that comes in 3 times a day and with some good food on the truck, and also the bar-b-cue guy in the evening with the grill on the back of his pick up.
