Foodservice is not too bad though. Work 4 days and home almost everyday and off weekends. Keeps you in shape if your lucky and don't get hurt. There are guys doin this for 15-20yrs still delivering and don't look broke down. Its all how you take care of yourself and little luck. I would hit the gym after work to strengthen myself. Sounds crazy but it helped alot. If it ain't for you then you'll have this experience. You can get fired and land a job the next week in foodservice. I would get on with one of the union foodservice companies cause IMO you need that protection in this type of industry. If you can handle unloading, early start times 2-3am, and customer service. Then you can do the job. It's really how your mentality towards it. If you have FML attitude every time you open your trailer at the first stop you won't last long. I'd still be there if I didn't get canned but everything happens for a reason. I have a good LTL linehaul job, just drive back and forth every night make more money or same if I was still there and haven't lift a box in 1.5 yrs. Good thing is I can fall back on foodservice instead of going Otr if things every went south.

I've seen my fair share of bad loads, but I just get annoyed with the guys that blame the warehouse on everything. Yes, it sucks having to dig through an entire pallet!

some places are not dropouts, some restaurants and country clubs higher end etc require culinary degrees these days for Chefs and Management. Normal cooks and stuff yeah a lot of times dropouts or just high school.

I applied at McLane Foodservice today and spoke with one of their drivers who was coming out of a drivers meeting this morning. He seemed to be very happy. I asked about the work and to no surprise he basically said the work was hard but it payed well, the benefits are great and the company treats their employees well. He said everyone was called a teammate and it had a family atmosphere. He also said they have drivers meetings every few months to recognize their employees and to have training sessions...sounded pretty cool. I have a follow-up meeting with their Transportation Manager on Thursday.
I will provide everyone with some feedback after my face to face meeting. Thanks to all of you for your feedback so far. I do appreciate it.

Well, I've worked for sygma for 2 years now, and it has its ups and downs, but overall I enjoy doing it. And to clear up the confusion, sygma is a subsidiary of Sysco. I'm gone from home a little less than 60 hours a week, but I really only spend ~36 hours actually working. Of course, to make A LOT of money, you have to do a lot of extra runs. I think last year the top grossing driver made somewhere between 120-130k, however, he was never home.
