That's all kinda my point here... getting a CDL and getting on with a carrier does not make one a professional driver..
So, many of those strugggling going from company to company hoping that the next company will be where they find success...
But, if they don't have the traits needed to be a successful driver it will always be aa struggle, stress and disappointment for them.

O.K. then, to stop the churn of drivers a great driver should have:

    1) a job that pays a living wage.
    2) insurance
    3) A pension
    4) A regular full sleep
    5) Enough free time for a family life
    6) A boss that is not a micromanaging fool and understands trucking.
    7) A paycheck that respects his time and work.
    8) A truck that does not endanger his life.
    9) Company support in managing customers.
    10) a little respect.

Put those things together and you will not have an employee "hopping from company to company."

Obviously, your trying to make a point but are looking at it, and presenting it totally backwards. As evidence; the companies that provide my list have less then 5% turnover. While the drivers that fulfill your partial list, often fall in with companies that have 100% turnover.

    Stopped reading at "Recruting Ads."

The vast majority of people with the work ethic to be good drivers are not going to get into a truck because of a recruiting ad. The same people that look into trucking schools because of some recruiting ad are the same people who get surprised that some trucking companies do hair follicle tests and random drug tests. They're the same people who wiggle when Werner and England sends their recruiters to school looking for fresh meat, "Who wants a CREngland sunshine injection in Uranus?" And then, their next post at TTR is whether or not their scum sucking company can take their CDL if they cut and run.

Is anyone surprised they quit? Nope. They've never accomplished anything in life, and getting into trucking won't make them a better person. They hate trucking, but it's the only job that they can do where they can avoid showers and toilet paper and not get fired for showing up on the job smelling like arse. Whenever you hear someone complain that they could make more money at McDonalds, remind them that McDonalds would require them to bathe.

Some college educated idiot realized that they could put neckbeards in trucks and load the truck full of cattle prods and pay them minimum wage. The neckbeard will be glad that he has a place to live since he had to leave his grandmother's basement when she passed. Then he plans to run 250 miles per day, and get a fat boy spot at the Loves, so he can stay up for 20 hours and play video games. He goofs when he goes to a friend's home for a few days to play video games and smokes weed. When he pisses dirty, he cries aloud and lament how weed is harmless and has medicinal purposes. Man, if only they would legalize the stuff. All neckbeards and burnouts would flock to trucking if they could do drugs.

There are people, however, that do get into trucking and do well here. But these same people did well in their previous job/career. You can always spot retired military in the crowd. You can always spot the kids that were raised by a good parent, or had a good role model. They're few and far between in this industry, but they almost always gravitate towards the top of the heap.

    1. You have to be a self starter. You WILL NOT be successful if you are a person who needs to be shown baby steps and slow making decisions.
    2. Efficiency. You can not be someone who runs late for things. I never want to be on time. I am the fool who really gets to the airport two hours before a domestic flight lol Thats how obsessed I am about time schedules.
    3. Sense of direction. To be a good driver you need to truly have a sense of direction. Some have it some dont. I never used a GPS at all over the road and I didnt have a fancy phone then. Having a good sense of direction and good with a map book will get you a long ways.

@FireLotus said it right. See people who trash talked the two companies I drove for and I always thought there was room for improvement on things but I worked hard and considered both those companies great experience and building blocks. Those people you see here crying how horrible their companies or how they never get miles couldnt make it at walmart. Can barely drive cars yet the want to go OTR.

Great is a strong word, what comes to mind are the Abe Lincoln's and George Washington's of trucking, I think those shoes have already been worn.

The companies that provide lol that o your list that only have. A 5% turnover.... do they hire and train new drivers?

The companies that I work with also have a low turn over..... but they only hire experienced drivers...

Trucking is not for everyone... Someone who Is not cut out for trucking wlll not become cut out for trucking if. You give them a raise, some benefits and some perks.

Just like not everyone is cut out to work at home for commission only like I do... can I set my own hours.. absolutely.. but, to be successful I have work the hours that provide the best opportunity for my success.. so even though I can start my day whenever, I have found I it best to be in my home office ready to work at 6 to 6:30 am.. I can work however many hours a day want... but again, to be successful I need to. Put the time and effort in.. last week I could of chosen to go out with some friends to a concert that I did want to see,, however, I was working on filling an It position and opted to not go.. and glad I did, because I did make cold calls and found a good candidate.. he interviewed Monday was offered and acccepted the job... so I missed the concert but made $12,000.. but, it could also of not worked and i just missed the concert.
My firm does don't provide any benefits or pension... I purchase my my own... I have a HSA, Blue Cross Blue Shield, vision and dental... I just pay all the premiums myself, same with funding my retirement..

What I do can be a good career and one can make good money it.. but, not everyone, not every wants to be not the phone out of the day, or on the computer, not every one wants or likes that you can spend all day on the phone and computer and get nothing.. maybe even a week of nothing.. but then it is that one cold call you made that is your paycheck.. that you make $12,000 on...

So, all careers, be it an IT person, a work at home staffing and recruiting agent or a truck diver.. there are certain traits that the indivuals who are successful in those fields have.. the person with the traits to be a successfful IT person probably wont do as well in trucking as they would in IT, just as the person with the traits to be a succcesful Truck Driver probably won't do good as a staffing/recruiter agent...

Onery, Freedom Minded, and enough money to get it done.

Toss the pretty scenery out the window. The icing on the mirror upgrade tells me of a pending battle with old man winter once near the Summit.

You must like yourself. And do many things yourself with no one around to tell you what to do.

The first year is the worst in any trucker's time. They will sink, quit or they will thrive and be around a while be it 5 years or 30 plus. Not everyone is going to get that far in life. Or get to live that long and still have all your parts in working order.

Ive been off the road since roughly 2009 which isnt really a road considering what I was doing as a foreman herding young temp cdls at the auction house. But I keep up with most everything that goes on and learn something new every day. But it's in the blood. Maybe half desiel too. Who knows. You gots to like it.

If you don't? quit. Do something else.
