Air America, Evergreen International Airlines, Southern Air Transport would take them, if they were still around. Remember them?

    The end of an era.

In December Delta flew the last passenger flight of a 747 by a U.S. airline. The same plane was flown to the Marana Pinal Airpark graveyard in Arizona earlier this month.

The only 747s operated by a U.S. company now are cargo planes.

Yup and United retired their fleet one month prior. And they operated their 747 fleet the longest, having been one of the original launch customers for the 747 program.

Those 4 were fronts for the CIA.
Southern Air Transport had one shot down in 1986 over Nicaragua while doing some illegal gun running.
I think Evergreen lost a couple of plane loads of Army Rangers enroute from Panama to Vietnam.

This famous picture of the last helo to leave Vietnam is not a military helo, it's an Air America CIA helo.

Sad to see them going the way of the Dodo. I did some transatlantic trips on the upper deck of a 747. That was back when they served real food on china with silverware... a real treat.

But, 747s will soldier on for a long time yet doing cargo.

I will say, the 787 is sooooo much better though. And the service on Cathay is pretty good too.
