I am currently enrolled in school and graduate at the end of February. I am interested in becoming an owner operator. Are there any companies that hire students in central Florida?
For student drivers

Which town are you in?
Mainly, are you South of Interstate-4 or North of Interstate-4?Last edited: Jan 18, 2024

@MrMurphy82 Maybe one of the Moderators will put your question in your own thread so the information doesn't get mixed in with the OPS questions on this thread.
Maybe @REO6205 or one of the others. -
What's your nearest major city?
@Chinatown can likely point you in the right direction.
Edit:
You may also want to say if you want to do dry vans, reefers, flatbeds, tankers, or do not care. Also if you will get hazmat or other endorsements.Chinatown Thanks this. -
I'll definitely recommend reefers since he lives in Florida. All the years I pulled reefers, never had any problem getting freight into and out of Florida. Was never stuck in Florida. Probably because the company I drove for used CH Robinson for loads. I was a company driver.
I asked the Mods to move start his own thread in the "Questions From New Drivers" so his questions don't get lost somewhere along the way.cuzzin it Thanks this. -

Wait, this is the worst time to get into ownership. I would work at least a few years, 5 would be best, and have no accidents. Learn how the system works, get on with a company that will show you the back office stuff, and become disciplined in record keeping and LISTENING.
Save your money, get at least $80,000 in the bank and an established line of credit before even looking for a truck and then when you do look for one, keep in mind you are not marrying the thing, so looks don't matter - performance does.
Don't go into this with the idea of making the big bucks, the days of the newbie becoming rich with million-dollar hauls are long gone because this is an industry where 90% of the people becoming owners last less than one year.
AND the more important reason is this fact, how do you know you can even drive a truck? Being a student is a lot different than being a driver.homeskillet and 88 Alpha Thank this.
