I was at the Dealer today, outraged by paying $22 for a fuel filter. Meanwhile a Guy complained about $13000 def repair bill. Mechanic responded they had 1 last month with a deleted system gone bad $48000 later, it’s back to original. My thoughts at the time, stay out of the shops, especially the Dealers. These days the moneys in repairing them, not Owning them. Before you sign any repair order or even let them diagnose a problem, be clear of what the costs will be, otherwise be ready to learn a hard lesson.$12000 maintenance per year for everything isn’t bad these days. Some years better some worse. Averaged over the years, it’s still expensive. My Old Truck May nickle and dime Me and need minor fixes that I take care of. But It doesn’t put Me out of Bussiness. If I had to start with $1800 pymt and $20,000 yr insurance. I wouldn’t bother, not worth the effort. $800 mo ins bad enough, No Truck pymt. With All the variables in Trucking, mainly repairs, it’s only in retrospect that You see true profits ( or losses). You want to know what you make? Add up how much went into personal ( house account) for the year, compare cash in bussiness account beginning and end of year. Compare value of equipment and amounts owed. Never count on making back losses, that moneys lost as is the time. Deciding to continue or quit while ahead is the hard part. Pride cometh before a fall. So True
