Good for you, lol. What did the company do?Did they charge you for all the fuel used?
-
Company cultures are what they are.
It's the norm to run like that some places.
I barely got out of my first big mistake company with my CDL intact.
Run like scalded dogs on fictional paper logs, running around the scale houses, outlaw, cowboy, run-n-gun, git-r-done, in violation every minute of every day, and tired, oh man tired every second, 14-, 15-hour runs magically fit into 11-hour driving days, etc., hit the yard at 7 p.m., be back in the truck rolling at 2:30 a.m.
Don't kid yourself, it happens all the time.
If you'd like to complain, go here:
http://nccdb.fmcsa.dot.gov/
CLick the box under truck or bus complaints, then ...
You see that the incident has to have happened involving travel between two states and within the last 60 days, so click that box and click continue at the bottom...
You come to another page to click that the incident involved interstate transportation AND it happened within 60 days (yes, they ask again). Click both boxes.
Next, you come to a box entitled "safety violation disclaimer" which includes the following language before you can click further through:
- If you would like to submit a complaint online, click the Continue button below which will take you to a secure site for filing the complaint. Your information will be encrypted using SSL technology.
- To file a complaint over the phone you may dial our toll free Hotline number 1-888-DOT-SAFT (368-723 eight) Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM ET. One of our representatives will assist you with filing your complaints.
Then there's this nugget:
"The DOT follows a strict privacy policy, which is required by law, of not disclosing the identity of the complainant. However, no immunity from prosecution is guaranteed for persons who file a complaint and are party to a violation, but the DOT generally holds the motor carrier responsible for regulatory compliance."
So, you can't be a party to the violation, which means that if you've been running hard and getting paid, but finally get fed up with it because you nearly crashed or killed someone, there you are.
You click the continue box and it begins by asking for all of your personal information.
Have at it, honest drivers! If every driver had this information on a wallet-sized card, and used it, all those sketchy companies would soon be out of business.
/Not my circus, not my monkeys. Let the sun shine IN and let slip the dogs of DOT. -
Patty thats how the company manage to pay the fine is because of the drivers profit from it. I heard FMCSA have this new csa 2010 score on drivers now for any of those violation they have it sticks to them.appalanchetrucker thanks I know in the future if I ever work with a company like that on what to do. For now im on elogs & they know they can't put us on a load that we can't finish it out with not enough time

ELOGS don't necessarly work far as reducing crashes.Reason being is because you could sit for hrs after your 10 hr brk is completed but you're now you're too tired from sitting all day waiting for a load to drive all night dispatchers don't care all they see is you have hrs you better run. That's whan you put your foot down and say nope aint happening give me a load tomorrow.Dispatchers should plan accordingly by asking drivers before automatically give them a load after sitting all day waiting.

Thats beyond crazy patty makes me glad that I do tankers you get loaded in like a hour & a half or 2 & you get unloaded just as fast & we don't worry about lumpers. I still can't never uunderstand that how the receiver charging you *the driver* for them to unload they own freight I never understand that even though the company reimburse you but still. I can understand about why tank wash charge the company to clean there tanks after tank gets unloaded but the shipper receiver charging you to unload they own freight I just dont understand it

Patty I was a loader before I became a truck driver I was a loader at ups a unloader at fedex & a loader again at macys logistics & I can tell you from a loaders standpoint it don't & I do mean it DON'T & shouldn't take no more then 4 hours to load a trailer most of the times it only took me 2 hours but most times no more then 2 hours & a half. I guess cause I like working in a fast pace. You guys should never be sitting all day for no reason. Those people are lazy & believe me in ups they wanted us to unload a minimum of 300pph *packages per hour* me I was doing about 430pph or a little higher a hour & if a worker can't keep up with the pace they have to send another person in that same trailer to help the employee load faster

A driver who is in fear for his job can be coerced, especially if he's a new driver, unsure of how reality is supposed to work. I was never forced or asked to do anything illegal, but it was expected that I would understand what to do without being asked. It was an unspoken accepted condition of the job. This is a culture of breaking the law and it exists, no matter what all the Pollyanna doo-gooder strong and principled he-men moralists here claim. When you're a greenhorn company driver you don't even know which way is up when you first start.
If you're an experienced driver with a good company or an O/O, you don't have the pressures that are upon new drivers hanging over you. If they can, a company will run a new driver's butt off, and so what if his CDL gets dinged up so bad nobody else will hire him. At the little outlaw company that was my starter company, I know of at least several of the drivers who had major accidents and were still there. Probably because they couldn't get hired anywhere else. It's a different kind of bondage.
If you've dodged that trap, you shouldn't be judging others who weren't as good or lucky as you.
It's this holier-than-thou attitude that completely ignores the dynamics of personality and circumstances and it's just annoying and so easy to throw out here on the internet without much thought.
Give it a rest.Last edited: Nov 3, 2014

I hear you about lumpersIt's like you ordered the stuff unload for own crap for free. Many of the grocery warehouses has a lumper company.I have found lumper places take the longest to unload. You could only have say less then a trailer full of product and you're there for hrs. They take 1 trailer off count the stuff take a brake then another trailer. Its ridiculous. You also could be waiting a half hr before the lumpers will check you in.Then a good hr before they even touch your trailer. Then ppl wonder why drivers get mad.
