As others have said, do not go to bed as soon as you get home. Stay awake for a while and do whatever.
I've been on a 7~pm start time for longer than I care to admit. When I get home in the morning, I'll cut the grass, argue with the wife and kids for a bit, and try and go to bed around noon. I'm usually pretty tired at that point. Get up at 5, eat supper and head to work. Friday's I'll stay up as long as I can, but usually crash on the couch around 8pm. Saturdays I'm up at 7 and ready to go all day. I stay up late Saturday night, sleep until 900 Sunday. Get up, Church at 1030, then visit my parents until around 3, then take a nap.
I've seen others try the night shift where they go home and straight to bed, then they're awake 4-5 hours before work. I usually see those guys sleeping somewhere along the road. (In a day cab, mind you) I prefer to sleep in my bed. Much more comfortable.
What I do don't work for everyone, obviously. But, it seems those who go home and stay awake for a while do better than the others.Keithdabarber, Sirscrapntruckalot, TugHillRider and 1 other person Thank this. -

I too MUCH preferred night driving. Day sleeping can be a problem. Get some of those squishy ear plugs. They feel odd at 1st, but you get used to it, and blocks out a lot of noise. I have a noisy upstairs neighbor, and I use them still today. Also, a note on your doorbell "Day Sleeper", helps too.

then at night, when it's hot and muggy outside, you at least do not have the hot broiling sun beating down on your cab or trailer.
ever work inside a trailer that has baked in that hot broiling sun?
i know i have, and i'd venture to guess nearly 99.000% of the others here have as well.
also, getting fuel at the truck stops is a bit easier, as there are no long lines waiting for fuel.
i always found the benefits driving/working at night, far out weighed working day time.201, G13Tomcat, farmerjohn64 and 1 other person Thank this. -
