Lonewolf, "I am electing to take mine at tax time, and using the lump sum to pay off some things."

not sure what you consider "lump sum". but my per diem first year only returned me 1000.oo of what i had paid in.

Let's see, what was it last year.

    $52 a day X 80% = $41.60 a day so 41.60 x days out =

So you only worked 24 days on the road Bigray?

Mine will look around this for this year

    $52 X 80% = $41.60 X 310 days (give or take) for $12,896

Which I haven't paid into taxes. But one way or another, you can get most of your money back at the end of the year if you do your taxes right, and understand that you aren't going to get all of THOSE taxes back!

This is a tax deduction not a tax credit. You do not get back $41 a day. You will get to reduce your income by $41 a day for the days out.

    Markk9 Thanks this.
