Foreign based 3PLs and their effect on freight rates

    Ok, couldn't help it, but if you knew anything about OOIDA you'd know that they do in fact push for stricter CDL training standards. But again it's them against more powerful lobbies with deeper pockets.

    I'm talking about me, I know them. I've been a member for a long time and I've had numerous conversations with them. Therefore I don't expect much help from OOIDA.

    I am as welll and love right down the road from them. Met a really nice lady while walking my pup at home that happen to work there for over 20 years. She speaks very highly of them from an employee stand point as well. That goes a long ways in my mind.

    These two statements are very important.

    This is what bothers me, OOIDA is a good organization, and it is only as effective as its members.

    That said, some of you are going to get all pissed off by what I am going to say.

    OOIDA isn't for company drivers, it is for Owner Operators and 1099 drivers.

    While there are company drivers who join the focus isn't on them.

    See talking to some of the OOIDA people in the past, they have had an issue with participation from owners and drivers alike.

    If they had a 50% increase in participation just in the letter-writing campaigns, they would have an easier time but they don't.

    Why is because people join expecting this to be like a super pac where you throw money to an organization and expect results.

    For the years I have been in this industry, I have seen it only get a lot worst, even in the 70's it wasn't all that great three Muskiteers' time in the industry but now people are so isolated and have gotten so greedy and selfish, they don't want to put an effort into anything anymore.

    It isn't about the changes for everyone as it should be and as the OOIDA was formed on but the changes for them that matter.

    HOS is too complex and drivers want to drive 14 hours a day while sleeping 2 hours and don't need to log a thing because they are big-time truck drivers from the short bus.

    Brokers are mean and cheat everyone so they need to be fixed by telling the owner how much money they make, how much their wife/husband makes, and what they spend on groceries. Never mind the fact that doesn't matter, it is because the owner wants every penny.

    Participation takes an effort, it takes time, and it is something that means a person has to get off their ***** and talk to others about one or two subjects. It means getting together and meeting with your representatives (which is effective on some issues but not all). It means that you have to be a bit organized, and can't rant on and on about a lot of things in any communication with any politician (or their staff). But then the OOIDA can tell you how to do all of this.

    The reason that these safety groups and these anti-truck organizations are so effective is they take advantage of this fractured industry, they count on the crying and moaning about issues when there is something that they are fighting for.

    Back to the OOIDA, they want owners and drivers to be successful, not being successful doesn't make their organization work.

    OOIDA has good insurance and other good services that no one else has, I keep hearing how brokers don't want to accept their insurance or others' insurance, and as I have pointed out participation may get this changed. I don't cover this issue in my above post about what needs to be changed for brokers, adding the issue with insurance would be prudent at this point.
