Due to our lifestyle and health issues, nurses are naturally attracted to us! :biggrin_2559:

This is one of the biggest problems in the industry, it's a fall back job to a lot of people and they really don;t give a shizz about anything in it.

And we have a winner..I could not agree more.. I got into driving for reasons I later found were not really what I wanted but found a good niche and respect it - and those Teamsters who made it possible for me to make the wages I do. At the same time, I have the utmost respect for those who have been real pro's whether O/O's or company drivers - you stick out like sore thumbs anymore but I definitely notice you guys..

Unfortunately the schools don't tell you the first year is going to be a bust for most people. The advertisements paint this rosy picture, that you're going to jump in the truck and make $40,000 or more the first year. The schools don't and can't teach you how to drive a truck in four weeks. They teach you how to pass the CDL exam. After that, you find out there's only a few companies out there that will hire and train you, and they all pay next to nothing. You have to stick it out for a year with them, make yourself more marketable, then you can find another company that pays better. That's how it works.

One of the great things about this forum, the wealth of information in past post !!

Reading posts from 3 years ago, almost nobody is still posting here, they are almost all gone.

Posts from just 1 year ago, reveals a few more are still around......

The last I knew, only about 15% last the first year !!!!!!!

I just started in this business and I already have my degree. I'm much more determined than you however. Your life is what YOU put in to it. Pay your dues think for yourself or college will provide you with the same taste in your mouth you have now. If you give up it just gets easier. I started a car hauling business--less money to get in at first. Think about it. But don't hang your head bro.

15% of posters last the first year? As far as drivers go I thought the number was lower than that. I'm curious though if anyone has any numbers on how many who last the first year or two keep at it. If you took the 1st year guys out I wonder what the turnover is really like.
