    I usually figure 250-300 pounds per hole.

    That's cutting it very close.
    I'd go three to make sure.

    Maybe more, depending on the rear tandems.

    I like to keep the drives just a little bit heavier than the trailer.

    Didn't read this whole thread so if this is already here....forgive me but...YES, there is a simple formula that has always worked for me regardless of load, trailer or hole spacing. It's based on 800 lbs. per foot. Ready?

    Heavy minus light = X ... X divide by 2 = Y ... Y divided by 800 = Z.

    Z is the answer expressed in FEET.

    Example:
    Drives = 34680 Tandems = 30380 .... sooooo...

    34680 - 30380 = 4300
    4300/2 = 2150
    2150/800 = 2.6875 FEET

    So... since you can't move 2.68 feet you can either go 2.5 (6" holes) or roughly 2.75 (4" holes).

    6 inch holes = 2 per foot
    4 inch holes = 3 per foot

    This has never failed me. :biggrin_25525:

    Can't remember exactly where I was, somewhere between Sacramento and Los Angelas, but police were using one of those temp turnouts and all they were checking was 40' tandem settings. So yep they do check and enforce it.
