It's not about avoiding them it's about avoiding the coops.

Well the guy I'm talking to says they've got transponders and want DOT compliance with all things, but he may just be a sweet talking recruiter.

The transponders are for the precious cargo they haul, if ya catch my drift haha.

Yeah, the more I talk about it the more I'm getting spooked at the 1099.

Does anyone have anything POSITIVE to say about it at all? Because my options aren't exactly great otherwise. I've been hunting for work for a month since Werner shat all over my DAC report.

I'd do it, if I want to be a trucker and have some problems with criminal or MVR record. Those outfits give drivers a 2nd chance and a job. Keep your tax records, receipts, etc. right so you don't get hit by the IRS in years to come.

There are Craigslist jobs that pay by w2. Why are you not looking at them?

Well, 1099 isn't the end of the world. The taxes are up to you, and a good accountant can make it work, you just have to remember to pay them. It gets the owner off the hook. It's more important how you are getting paid per load, mileage or percentage, that's the number you should concern yourself with. I'm out of the loop, but no less than 35% or .40cpm seems to be fair. The "White Volvo" is a derogatory term for foreigners who drive them. It has less to do with them, and more that Volvo is a very popular truck for fleet owners. I've heard of Izzy Trucking. Best advice, talk to one of their other drivers.
