Couldn't have said it better, although my pot was used and the RF just wired straight past it, wide open, like we always leave it anyway.
As for CB radio checks: first off, getting a checkup from "truckers" on channel 19 is about like having your kids do the veterinary work on your dog.
I want to know 3 things on a radio check, in the rare times that I do them:
1.) how far out are you?
2.) what is my signal? (how many pounds you gettin')
3.) is my modulation clean? No sense in being LOUD if you isn't bein' CLEAR.
Also, I may ask about my background: I use a connex board on am, and don't want it sounding anything more than me standing in a large room.
Many truckers will tell you that you sound great even when,
1.) you're across the highway from them
2.) you're splattering like a cow pissin' on a flat rock
    3.) you're echoing like a yodeling drunk
4.) your mike cord is breaking up intermittently
5.) your windows are open and you need a noise cancelling mike.

yes I know. I understand what the RF knob does because I used to use it before i took it to the shop to have them modify it. you are right, my RF gain knob is no longer a "RF gain knob" anymore but that particular knob does control how much i transmit know since he changed it, that's what i was trying to say earlier, sorry if I sounded confusing.

Hell, I've got to where I don't say on 19 as much anymore. I like hollering at base stations and all that junk. I use 19 if I am going down the interstate or something.

((( if you have a stock Cobra 29, it's probably DK'ing around 3w's, and swinging anywhere from 6w's to 12w's...If you get it P&T'ed and have the Mosfet finals put in, then you may see anywhere from a 25w to 40w swing out...(or more!) And that's without a Amp... )))

:biggrin_25515:p&t and mosfets is what i would settle for.......but cant find a cb shop. asked on cb radio and they mentioned buzz brothers...if mosfets are finals...he cant do it.
what i might have 2do is send it out to cobraman148 or someone else. if i can find someone in n.jersey ,difference is i can wait 4 it...

    txs all....

That's really a smart way to go, especially with a 29. You won't really need an amp.

I recall a guy doing something like that with a steel tube years back, but it was a huge rig and a hard install. Had to have a FAN, too!

This shop you went to is selling a Stryker for $400?:biggrin_2555: Dude...Don't walk away from that shop! "RUN!"

Google "Stryker 440 Radio" and check prices from some of the On-Line CB Stores...Average price of the Strykers is just a little over $200...Even the Stryker 490 is still under $300...

As for the lil Wilson antenna...All I can say is "You get what you pay for".

The Wilson 1000 and 5000 are much better antenna's, and will get you herd allot better than the lil Wilson...:yes2557:

Maybe...But I doubt it very seriously...I have no-clue as to why they said they couldn't replace the finals with Mosfets...It's done all the time...My guess is that shop's Tech, doesn't have a clue as to what he's doing...

i say....lol from 4 watts without changing anything....MAYBE,maybe he CAN get over 10 watts. he did say CLOSE to 24.

im curious to how its done, modulation mostly?

plus, this guy was young...doesnt strike me as old school....:biggrin_2551:
