IMG_0456.jpeg IMG_0458.jpeg To answer the OP question regarding foundry hooks here’s what I did.
I bought grade 100 foundry hooks and took them to Ashely Sling in Charlotte NC and had them put them on 5’ lengths of grade 100 1/2 chain.
I also had them make me the same with grab hooks.
I have 6 of each and an assortment of long 1/2 & 3/8
Find somewhere near you that builds rigging for overhead lifting and they can get you right. Yes it will be expensive but definitely worth it.
Here is where I bought my foundry hooks and several other chains etc.

I've looked at their stuff a number of times when I was in the market for another piece of equipment. Good outfit by the looks of it!

I'm not arguing as I have grade 100 chains. But if a Grade 80 grab hook matches the WLL of a Grade 100 chain, why do you need grade 100 grab hooks? I suspect foundry hooks need to be grade 100 to match the 15,000 lb. WLL of grade 100 1/2" chain.

I have the same. We are fortunate to have one of these stores within 25 miles. Home - Boise Rigging Supply

How hard is it to attach the foundry hook to the chain…?

I definitely agree..if you can spend less and get the same WLL then absolutely it makes sense.

I forget, but we modify a lot of 1/2-5/8 binders with a slip hook directly on the end for that sort of stuff, usually carry at least 4. And there's two ways you can go about it, think we put 5/8ths hooks direct on binder

But the other way we have done it is get a hook with an eye and use heavy duty twin link to attach to binder.

Phoenix Heavy Haul, cke and Oxbow Thank this.

I use foundry hooks on a couple 4’ tail chains. Grade 80 on grade 70 chain. Had no issues. They are a little speedy but very handy. I also have 4 binders with slip hooks on one end. Also spendy and handy.

As far as a cheap alternative, I haven’t found one. And as far as grade 80/100 chain. It’s useless unless you are using grade 80/100 binders. My foundry hooks I got on a deal because some guy ordered them and didn’t realize how big they were.
So the rigging store gave me a discount to take them.
