I had a guy turn me off on buying a truck with 1.5 million miles on it the other day. He said the frame was likely stressed so much that it would flex a lot causing problems. I have never ever heard anything like that before. I understand that major suspension components wear out and need replacing at around 700-800 thousand mile intervals but never heard anything about a frame failure or flexing issue. Based on what you guys are saying the frames on these trucks could very well last 3-4 million miles if not badly abused. Can any of you more experienced owner operators or fleet owners comment on the average life expectancy of a typical class 8 truck frame?
Lots of variables there. Out East with all that salt its not gonna last near as long as it does in a very dry area. Off highway will stress it more than only highway driving. Frame rail dimensions and thickness plays a big part too. Out west I'd say the frame typically outlasts everything else on the trucks.
