There was a news clip about that maybe 2 months ago. They said foreign folks were paying big $$ to come watch it….
I took this picture of the plaque about 12 years ago. Hyrailed across the bridge many times. The concrete pier has a chunk missing about 3 1/2’ above the water from 1 of the barges. The barge beside it cleared the concrete pier, but… it hit the steel structure of the bridge over the water knocking the bridge I think was 27” out of alignment. Bayou Canot bridge was built with the option to make it a moveable bridge, capable of opening for marine traffic. But it never was completed. So the adjoining structures shared the same pier. Mr. I W. Owens was our EIC, and he was on sight of the wreck within an hour of it happening. He said it was a haunting situation…..
Singaporean firm whose ship took down the Baltimore bridge just cited an 1851 maritime law to cap liability at $44 million
Well, considering a suspension bridge costs almost a billion dollars, not to mention the legal ramifications, I think they are trying to get off the hook.
Well the Key Bridge was a continuous truss bridge design so it’s to be determined on what design will be used in the replacement bridge, never mind the final costs of the design and construction.
I read, Original bridge took 5 years to build. Not sure if that was design to final paint brush or just construction.
I just heard that horse #### on the news while I was eating dinner and the misses and I nearly fell off our chairs. When a trucker takes down an overpass because he’s too stupid to load an excavator properly that company’s liability sure as hell isn’t capped at the value of the truck. Why should Captain Kangaroo here get off cheap? They destroyed it. They can reimburse us for replacing it. God #### nerve of some people... Unbelievable. As far as I’m concerned the shipping line should thankful if they’re not on the hook for the lost wages of the several thousand people they just put out of work.
