Now I'm not a lawyer and thus have no axe to grind, but wasn't there some talk at the time that the ship lost power more than once and and work had to stop while the ship was still in port? If so, I am surprised that we have heard nohing of a claim against the port authorities for allowing it to leave port.
The other thing I wonder about is the fact the crew dd not have shore passes. I know I am an upstanding white sort of person and only spent a year at sea in the Merchant Navy, but I don't remember ever being barred from leaving the ship in port. In Argentina they wanted my fingerprints, but apart from that, nothing.
