Fraudulent Use of MC#, another thing we have to watch now.

    For brokers out there, I have someone trying to use my authority to book loads. I have been contacted by two brokers this morning wanting to verify information for their carrier package. Fortunately, these two did their due diligence and contacted us. One of them said that the person trying to use our authority actually went in and tried to change my email address to gain access.

    I am sure most all of you are diligent about vetting prospective carriers, but just wanted to make everyone aware of my experience.

    Also need to be careful with people stealing plates again. Friend just had his plates swiped off both his truck and trailer. And someone showed up trying to use his MC#s with his stolen plates and truck number the same day it happened.

    Wonder if they were looking to steal the load or actually haul loads and get paid for them under your numbers?

    I only keep my authority active as a backup plan and to prevent boredom during our slow times in river work, so I wasn't looking for any loads. Hence, I assume they were trying to haul under my numbers. I am not sure how they thought they would get paid, but I suppose they could insert their bank information when filling out the carrier package.

    I do have their (scammers) phone number and will give it to FMCSA folks if they get back to me after trying to contact them three different ways. One of the brokers that contacted us about this gave us the phone number.

    Depends on who the shipper was. Lot of them do it to steal loads. But its also not unusual for someone to try and run under your numbers when they cant get their own. You see fraudulent use of MC#s spike when the FMSCA cracks down and makes it hard to do the flip and vanish crap.

    Keep an eye on your insurance policy. I had that happen to me last year, and the infidel that did it added several trucks, and 20 some trailers on my insurance policy.:mad::confused::confused::mad: no idea how he did it, insurance company didn’t have an explanation either.
