Yeah, but you don't see the country. The country sees you.
-
Well I saw a lot of the country from my windshield on the Interstate and my parking space at the truckstop. I saw a couple of scenic rest areas too. -
Hey original poster uhm, its a job dude all these drivers are correct, but on the 34restarts there could be time to mingle but dont get in trouble...I saw a driver carrying his motorcycle on his flatbed trailer the other day which I thought was pretty cool so yea I guess it could be done because I'v done it before in LV,SLC,Tacoma,Spokane,Salem and Denver but only on your 34restart you will be too tired during the 10hrs off to do anything like that.
dumbass01 Thanks this. -
Forget about doing much of anything beyond showering, eating and trip planning the next day during your workweek.
On your 34 hr restart is your one chance to do something fun that doesn't involve trucking or truck stops. Forget about bobtailing. Most companies do not want you disconnecting from your trailer and many truck stops don't want dropped trailers on their lot.
So you'll have to spend a few bucks or walk if you want to go somewhere. Taxi, public transportation or rent a car for the day. In the south west some casinos have free shuttles that will pick you up from the truck stop. If you are near a big city a bus stop may be within walking distance and you can get where you need to go from a bus or subway.
I used google directions to help me find my way around using buses and subways. I saw ballgames, took tours, visited landmarks, went to museums and took classes in several cities.
It's possible but it does take planning and often a monetary investment.
Bobtailing around can save you the money and the effort but it can also jeopardize your job and career should something bad happen. -
Where do you plan on mounting a scooter or motorcycle on a company truck? The space behind the cab may offer enough room for a bicycle to be strapped to the back wall but otherwise the truck would have to be modified to permit enough clearance. Then there is the weight issue of the scooter/motorcycle. The more weight you carry for personal possessions means the less weight you can legally haul without an overweight permit.
As for bobtaiing to a restaraunt it is possible provided the company you work for allows it. Then the only problem is dropping your trailer at an approved location, securing it so it doesn't get towed away while your'e gone, stolen, or ticketed. If the trailer is loaded be sure to place some heavy duty boards under the landing gear. Parking lots are usually designed for light automobiles rather than loaded trailers. Drop a loaded trailer on 2 inches of blacktop and you will have to hire a heavy haul tow truck to lift the trailer back up and then pay for the damage to the parking lot to boot.dumbass01 Thanks this. -
Free time isn't planned, it just happens. Like they can't find you a load. With a name like dumass, you should be able to self entertain pretty easily at a moments notice!
Try online poker. I need more money.

Trip Planning? whats that... Figure out how to get around without driving someplace? He won't have any money to spend on ballgames or such he mentioned strip clubs more than once. My guess is T and A is all he is worried about.

Even that was banneed by our government back on April 15, 2011...better known as "Black Friday".

There's still a few sneaky ones. Poker Player Alliance now has over one million members and are lobbying hard to get it back.
