Tablets that run windows 8 RT won't get the upgrade. I ran beta versions of it on my laptop. The only thing I didn't like about it was that you couldn't remove the live tiles from the start menu and replace them with links like Windows 7 has.

Go ahead and jump into windows 10 if you want. It's free not because prior OS sucked but because Microsoft is going to sell everything they can to 3rd parties.
Now would be a good time to learn open source OS.

I've had the beta version of Windows 10 on my old laptop for some time now.
It's got some issues, but so does every operating system.
My understanding is that if you have windows 8/8.1 (regardless of version) then you're allowed to upgrade that computer free of charge. If you're sporting windows 7, then you need to have one of the operating systems labeled as, "Premium," or I think "professional."
If your computer is less than a year old then check with the manufacturer. Lenovo (ibm) is offering a free upgrade regardless of your operating system as long as you purchased the computer from them. Others may be doing the same.
Windows 10 is rumoured to have an offline map of the U.S. that includes all roads and major landmarks. It's also sporting Cortana, the buffed up version of Apple's Siri. They've also put back the start button that was removed from windows 8. A major con, for me at least, is that many features that make up windows 10 and are selling points do require you to be online AND signed up/in to their windows services (windows live.).
If you're tech saavy, give it a go. You'll likely enjoy it provided you don't mind working with a few bugs. If you're not or don't have time to work with any potential bugs, then wait 3-4 months after its official release.Last edited: Jul 30, 2015
