After dealing with how crappy Windows 8 and 8.1 are I have no intention of upgrading. I'm seriously considering having the local computer tech install a virtual box on my laptop so I can run XP and 8.1 on one machine.

I don't know when the last time you used Linux, but it's very user friendly. And you mentioned software. I have access to over 50000 free and open source programs to install at the click of a button. If my grandmother can use Linux, iIthink the average trucker could. There is nothing you can do on Widows that I can't do in Linux, but tons of things that can be done in linux that can't be done on Widows.

Took a few hours to install. Watched the settings and did turn off a few that MS wanted access to. All in all, it was painless. So far all my drivers are working. Norton is the only one I have to update to get win 10's new browser to see.

Very important tip for installing Windows 10: DO NOT SELECT "Express Installation." If you do, you are voluntarily sending Microsoft any and all data from your computer to do with as they see fit. Uncheck just about EVERYTHING. That being said, the only issue I have had on my PC (an 8 year old Gateway FX gaming computer with quite a few upgrades since I got it) was one Red Screen of Death the day after I installed it. Installed the latest Nvidia Windows 10 driver for my video card, and no more problems. Windows 10 does seem to use less resources than Windows 7 did, but I'm not 100% sure on this.

I love Windows 7 on the laptop, and I have the iPhone.
I'm scared to hop to 10, if it sucks, I'd have get an Apple laptop.
    Ugh

    It's good.
But you can go back to 7 after upgrading to 10, If you like.
Think it says you have like 30 days to downgrade.

Running 10 since the day of release.

    No problems so far.

The new browser "edge" seems ok.

If you value your privacy in the least, DO NOT UPGRADE to Win10.

Read up on it. Read the EULA. Read everything you can before you upgrade to this data mining software. In more than one spot the EULA it pretty much states that they will use any information they want from your PC in any way they see fit. And on top of that, for most of the services to work in Win10, you have to have an account with MicroCrap. Once you create your account, you are assigned an advertising number. A serial number if you will that will be used to track your movements on the web and used to show you custom advertising based on your info.

Basically, Microcrap is trying to play catch up with Google in the information race. Google knows so much about everyone it's not funny. And they're making millions off that info. So, instead of waiting for you to hand over that info, MicroCrap "gives" you a brand new operating system for "free" (something they have never done before) in hopes that you'll be blinded while they take what they want.

Good luck to those who walk towards this cliff wearing the "free" blinder MicroCrap is handing out.
