Up here in Nashville they were hiring right out of school last year. You go to their website fill everthing out and you will get email alerts when they have openings. I declined to pursue it after talking with a fellow driver that quit there to haul fuel.

It is the start of the slow season for freight. 6-8 weeks.

I got hired as a trucking school graduate. But like mentioned it slow season, freight is low right now. But apply at least. Each terminal is different.

Know if you want to do linehaul(nights) or City P&D work

Call the terminal you want to run out of or find a driver to talk to

Find out the number of doors and terminal size. Range from 1-6. 1 the largest, 6 the smallest. freight volume goes with the size as well. Finding a smaller terminal could be beneficial as you could possibly get a bid spot eventually, while going to a larger FAC there is usually 24hr work opportunities

Find out how many flex boards they have, as you will most likely be on one unless you get super super lucky. Depending on the number of people on the board, you could work 5 days a week or 2. So if you have a family to support, things could get tricky as you have to be on call. It sucks. I'm single so I can tolerate some of the BS of being a flex board guy.

I do linehaul, and I love it. Any other questions, just ask and Im sure me or jakebrake can answer them

I just wanted to know if everyone's FAC is heavy on chiefs and low on direction? It is like office space at my FAC, there is maybe two FOS or FOM that know whats going on and can give any sort of guidence or direction. I don't need my hand held, but these guys either don't talk to each other or they smoke their lunches and have short term memory loss. I am one of the people that actually give a #####, wanting to do my job correctly, making sure the freight gets to the customer in as good of shape (or better) than we received it. I just wish that everyone worked as hard as some of us do. The other thing would be, I am fairly new at Con-Way it would have been nice if someone, anyone had mentioned going to 8 hour days and working late shifts just after the first of the year, so someone could set aside some extra and maybe get ready for the shift change. Just a thought, but the more informed people are the more efficient they could be.

Its the same everywhere bro, I dont work at an FAC but I run to a few. Everyone wants to look good, and thats what happens when you have too many cooks. they spoil the soup. Some FOS's think they are gods gift to man. So just grin and bear it I guess, unless they are doing something out of line. Company has got too top heavy with so many titles when we have a simple task, pick up freight, move it economically and damage free to the consignee.

That would be Menlo's area of expertise. It is hard to find any open positions with Menlo though...

Haha join the club brother. I'm just south of you, and they say its "slow" but we still see many vans per night here. So i just dont know. Anyway based on projections they said we should see a spike in Feb into March or so. Good luck brother, I know the flex nonsense can get old. I was linehaul flex, havent ran in two months and usually get 20-30 hrs/week working the dock.
