All the wannabes get excited on hearing freight levels are up . But the truth is freight levels are still dropping .

So freight is picking up ? No , it's still going down .

When things went bad last year freight dropped 23% in October from September . It has continued to drop but only 2.3% in October this year . Do you all comprehend that ? The industry figures losing less is a gain . Look at it this way . Suppose you gambled for a year and lost money every month and lost $1,000 . Last year you lost $230 in October . This year you lose $18 in September then $23 in October but hey , you're improving because that's less than you lost last October .
That's the data behind recruiters saying freight is picking up . It's not picking up . It's just decresing a lot slower .
Freight is up , no it's down , no it's ..... ?

I was surprised my mileage was so high in November . The only month higher this year was July . December is looking strong so far . But that is my dedicated account . We had a shipper hauling paint to metal fabrication companies that had business fall way off . One of their customers near here closed the plant permanently . Workers at Sherwin Williams told me last year it was the first time in 15 years they didn't get overtime and workers were being asked to voluntarily take Fridays off .

You can look for a slight up tick over the next few/couple months. It takes time for some products to work their way into the system.
We're pounding pavement wide open, for the moment. I spent my first weekend this year, away from home, just last month. And they're still hounding me for more miles.
We supply corrugated boxes and roll stock, we can't move it fast enough. And scrap is actually starting to overwhelm us. We picked up 4 new accounts in the past month....and they have spread us extremely thin.
When these boxes....loaded with goods make their way into the supply chain. Some of the other guys will start seeing an improvement in miles run. -
at least it's not a government agency. we might get a little truth from it with no spin.
As far as my job goes, I am running around the 3000 mile range weekly. Which I really don't want to run anymore then that. But I have seen alot of drivers sitting around for days waiting for loads though. -
well in spite of all the experts there are areas where fright is picking up but it depends on what part of the country your in it is not picking up everywhere, we are still down quite a bit overall but it is slowly improving but dont run to the bank just yet we still have some bad times to go thrue.
if we all are going to survive we still have to keep that belt tight and the overhead down as much as we can.
the credit market is still locked up tight , banks are not loaning money so were pretty much own our own so we still have to be extreamly carefull with the decisions we make .
drivers mostly company drivers are still out of work and more and more are losing there jobs the big companys are feeling the heat to, not so much owner operators but were still losing a few of those.
we just have to dig in a little more and depend on each other for help more and more , we will make it or most of us will anyway and a lot that lose wright now will be abel to bounch back stronger then ever. keep the faith and remember you only lose when you quit. best of luck to all.---southernpride

Big companies hurting ?? Our new accounts are from a few of those big companies that made profit projections based on the light loads they had. Which translates to zero profits pulling paper roll stock loads. -
My miles the week before thanksgiving break and this week were the highest yet. All moving our own stuff. Have to see how next week goes.

October and November were pretty solid for me. First week of December brought me back to some semblance of reality. Got an 800+ mile load to deliver Monday at 1300 though, so we'll see how the next few weeks go.
