I can find you houses in Detroit for under $50k. They come with bars on the window and you'll need to wear body armor when checking the mail but yeah, under $50k in a major city no less. For $70k there's plenty of decent little houses out in the little west Texas desert towns. If you don't mind rattlesnakes and sand storms, dirt and rocks you can buy a place pretty cheap. I'm not sure who will be hiring in the area. Maybe the one gas station in town might need another cashier.

Ever heard of Muskogee Oklahoma? RTI has a terminal there and you can find houses under $200k but you'll definitely need tornado insurance.

Well, it doesn't take long on those lease roads for trucks to get dusty and beat up.

I didn't see anything political unless economics counts as politics but how are we supposed to discuss the impact of government and/or market forces on out industry without getting into economics?

That Love's in Kermit is not for English speakers. Notice it's all sand boxes and most of their drivers don't have a license

Lol I've used that line before. It's not like we're sharing in the ad revenue by having enough followers so there's no pressure on us to try the impossible task of pleasing everyone.

I have an A.A. in Finance and a B.B.A. in Management. My first real job after graduating was working for the government. I then went into the casino business and managed poker rooms. I had over 100 people under me. And then I started driving trucks and eventually got my authority. Because I like it, and wish I would have done it 25 years ago. If I had, today I'd be retired and living in a small coastal town, drinking daiquiris and fishing. If one has the right qualities and intangibles, one can succeed in ANYTHING. There's nothing wrong with being a trucker. Any trucker could have picked up another skill besides trucking if they wanted to. It ticks me off that society, and even truckers, view this profession as a bottom-of-the-barrel occupation.

College is OVER-RATED in today's world. If I could do it all over again, I would have never gone to college (unless I had a scholarship, which I DID at first, but that's another story). All it did was put me $60,000 in debt, because I spent my years there drinking and womanizing.

As for living in a big metro, that's another regret I have. I was born in Los Angeles, lived most of my life in Miami, with 2 years in Tampa and 6 months in Boston. And every time I drive through a small town, I wonder what it would have been like to live in a not-so-big town. Big cities are over-rated, just like college. If you have spent your life doing something you hate, then that's on YOU for not making a change.

But you shouldn't put down trucking, or small towns, just because it doesn't suit YOU. Other people have their own metrics, goals and agendas. What's good for you might not be good for them, and vice-versa.
