This is called running at a mega. You aren't gonna get thevsame rates you can pull from a dat board as a owner op or small company. When running at a mega, you have to take into account that they are running loads cheaper because they are trying to keep 5,000 trucks on the road or however many..

Basically they are running bulk rates not top rates. They make deals with the shippers at a lower rate to get consistent loads from them.

Everyone has to start somewhere. No one jumps right in making top dollar.

It's true in every other industry, so why would it not be true here? Bulk in every industry = lower prices. These companies all attempt to outbid each other to get the contracts this makes it lower aswell.

A company that can ship 10 or 20 loads a day is obviously getting a better deal by signing a contract with a trucking company big enough to consistently cover those loads vs the rates they'd get having to send those 20 loads a day to various brokers who are filling it with random trucker guys off a dat board.

Let me guess, you're leased onto a mega-carrier and that's the line you've been spoon-fed at said carrier? ;-)

JB Hunt took over Werner's account out of Elgin, IL. The Werner left over "crumbs" lanes of of there were cheap enough already, for instance for a load to Albany, NY area they were reluctant to pay more than $2500 and they were saying that they were losing money already when the spot market rates at the time were paying 2700-2800. Now JB Hunt is posting loads offering 2300 as a bargaining start but I could not get anything more than 2800 in June/July. Later, the most their offered after biding and rebidding was 2600, of course they were saying that they break even point was 2400. That lane for whatever reason is always for a load board sale. Somehow, I believed the JB person I spoke with to be sincere. Also I had that DAT lanemakers feature for a month (I think it was September) and if there is any accuracy there then the spot market rates were slightly better from what was described as "Shipper to Carrier" contract, despite them being "crumbs"
