SLC or SLAC does not mean #### in court. Just so you know.

If you want to be covered for real, write on the bill.....

    "Shipped at consignors risk"

You company will love you if you do this.

You know all that fine print on the back of the BOL? Ever read it? You should and you should also understand what it all means. Some companies try to make up their own crap but here in Canada there is two laws that govern these things.

    Truck Transportation Act
    Bill of Lading Act

I assume you have something almost identical in the States seeing how closely the countries are interlinked when it comes to transportation across the borders.

Doesn't really matter what happens in court. You are simply justifying what took place while your truck was being loaded. You are just covering your own butt not fighting for what company should pay for the load.

No doubt - I ran a P&D route here for a few years and here are some things we did for CYA purposes at the direction of the company..

Rather than use SLC, we would sign for say 10 SWP (shrink wrapped pallets) STC (said to contain) 424 boxes.. That was a clever way of acknowledging the shippers load count without locking yourself into a certain number - not that a shipper would ever be dis-honest..haha..

We were bumping a ton of different docks daily for LTL shipments and this was an approved way for us to sign bills by the shippers.. Let's be honest, if you pick up 30 skids that all have a different number of boxes it's not efficient to count every single box and this is a great way to CYA in the event of a dispute..

The other thing we did was mark motor moves on the bill.. You might have 20 skids but if they were wrapped together double stacked that would only be 10 motor moves..

i ran into trouble at border with slc and stc---our trailers are preloaded and the city driver had it on there--and cbp said he wouldnt accept load if if it had either on the bill--it is drivers resposability to know what is in trailer
as if i am going to break seal--open all the beer cases and count them ---but still have to smile and say yes sir
