Hello truckers,
First off, thank you for your services!
So I work for a freight broker and recently I had a load deliver in a dry van trailer with the seal still intact, but the freight inside was definitely tampered with...so I am assuming there are there ways of removing the janky thin metal seals, or trailer doors, or the lock mechanisms on dry van trailers? Any suggestions on security checks to prevent this in the future? Stronger seal type like a bolt seal obviously could help, but if there is a trick to get inside with seal intact anyway, then I guess it does not matter how strong the seal is?

Right, you just remove doors with hinges and seal will stay intact. Chicago carries are famous for this practice. Usually it's used for consolidating freight going to West Coast

It’s very possible that the shipper gave the driver the paperwork and the seal and no one watched to see if the driver actually sealed the trailer. I know that often happens with my loads. Kinda defeats the purpose, but people are lazy.

Spot weld the ends of all bolts on trailer doors, i mean everyone. Then use long heavy duty cable seals
Heavy Duty Cable Lock | Cable Seals | American Casting
Use the cables long enough to weave around door closure rods and through lock assemblies.
The more difficult you make it, the less problems you will have. Thieves look for the easy targets.tscottme and gentleroger Thank this. -

If the load is worth the extra expense..
Bolt type seals on both doors and require carrier to take pics of seals on doors prior to leaving shipper.
Not fool proof, but it would put the burden squarely on the motor carrier.DONIZUKA and Dockbumper Thank this. -
