Basically im just asking will the century get the job done? They are inexpensive and i hear that the maintainance is cheap because of it being a freightliner. Would it be a good decision to purchase this truck when getting my own authority, or should i go with something different? Id rather have a freightliner due to the frequent shops just in case of a break down
Freightliner Classic xl?

I'm in an 07 Columbia(basicallysame as Century) with a 519hp 60. Only complaint is it eats steer tires and had to have two ac condensers. It is pre-emission bs, so that helps.

I just drove through PA back up to ME yesterday, and I swear every truck I saw on the side of the road with the hood open was a Volvo, LOL. It was getting very amusing after a while.
scottied67 and A.Pratt3 Thank this. -
Volvo is my last choice of truck lol. Even though i hear about how freightliners break more often than peterbilts and kenworths, im stilll on a freightliner budget so i just plan to go in that direction. Just looking for a workhorse truck that can get the job done

I had a century, but my fav was a lease truck internatioal year 2005, that thing you couldnt stop it, i forget the specs on engine and stuff, but it did have a super ten and i dropped two gears going up a ant hill well coming out of barstow with a full load of dog food in bags, good workhorse and real roomy inside too.i like the shelf up around the sleeper area, good too throw things up there too get out your way.
scottied67 Thanks this. -
Not so much of tight budget, but instead would much rather pay off a truck fast so i wont have to worry about the note each week. Whats a good amount of miles to look for when purchasing a truck? Alot of trucks have over a million miles and the prices are much cheaper with these trucks, but that would be to many miles to be purchasing a truck wouldnt it?

I drive a Columbia which is the Century's retarded half brother. Granted it may not be a solid as a Peterbilt but its a good truck. IMO the Century/Columbia trucks are a good choice if you are on a budget and plus if you need work beyond your abilities you are never far from a Freightliner service point as many truckstop shops are FTL Service points.
FWIW, I'd check out the ex JB Century's that are now hitting the market. They can be turned up to 515hp, have 10sp OD and 3.58 rears which will easily do 65-70 and stay within the Detroit Diesel "greenzone". -

There's nothing wrong with a Freightliner at all.
I will go against the grain here, and say that the WORST truck we ever had was a Kenworth. The thing was brand new, and was basically a lemon from the get go. Thought we were getting the top of the line, go figure.
Meanwhile one truck I still have, is a Freightliner with 1,350,000 miles and seems to be fine, lol.A.Pratt3 and scottied67 Thank this.
