I'd find another shop. They sound clueless, judging by their snarky comments on the age of your truck. I was looking at a 94 Volvo/White today, I really like those. There's a bunch of old trucks I like. Plenty run them. Just don't run with an 8V92T lol.

What state did this happen in? There are various state agencies which oversee repair shops. Maybe you can forgo the cost of a lawyer and let the state agency handle it.

My truck is 20 yrs young and so far the few shops I’ve taken it to have always said that it was a great break from the new stuff. Lots of room around the engine and trans. Keep after it.

lots of us running old trucks. I run a 21 year old truck and restoring a 38 year old truck to run.
the problem is proving they did the damage. its also very likely they didn't notice they did it. a letter of intent to sue on a lawyers letter head would probably be a good place to start if a resolution can't be reached.
