New to this forum and hoping someone can help a girl out as to which truck would be a good first truck- a 2006 or 07 International 9400i with the ISX engine and about 600k miles or a 2007 Freightliner Columbia with a Detroit engine and 600k miles? Also any thoughts on transmissions ultrashift vs autoshift? Any insight or comments anyone has would be GREATLY appreciated :) thanks!

What exactly are you going to do with the truck?
How much do you expect to make from that use of the truck?
How much experience do you have?

It is impossible to answer your question without knowing the answers to these questions.

Sorry for the minimal info...we show dogs and spend quite a bit if time on the road so would be used to pull our 40' 5th wheel from Colorado both east and west. We currently pull with an 08 F450 ( a dog of a truck with all the emissions) so this would be a replacement for our tow rig. In continuing to read all of the posts, I hope I have not overstepped my welcome since I am not a professional driver :) I am really looking for just for the best reliable truck with about a 600k miles and don't mind driving a manual ( infact I personally prefer a manual transmission ). Thank you for any insight and expertise.

For that kind of mission just about anything will do. As far as engine specifics, you're going to get as many opinions as there are people. They all work. They all break. They all have hard core fans as well as hard core opponents who will tell you that you will end up stranded on the side of road if you use this engine or that. I think the most important thing you can do is find a good shop and put whatever you buy on a scheduled preventative maintenance program and don't be afraid to write checks if they tell you it needs something.

That is good to hear!! We were thinking that may have been the case between the brands as we have seen over the past 40 years with Ford and Chevy (and we own both in the way of trucks and have my opinion on both as well). Thank you for the input, it is greatly appreciated!
