Sounds like your dealer is hiding something to me. I went over 100 miles ONE WAY before I agreed to purchase my truck.

60 series Det is a real good engine. I have been in FTLR for several years. They turn as good as a Volvo. But stuff does just fall off like corner padding and other crap. Upper windows on condo pop out won't close. Had one do that in Rifle ,CO and had to unhook and stand on step to close the #### thing. Mine is 470 hp and gets 6-7 around most of TX. About 4.8-6 when in hills and mountains like ND,NE,CO,UT. Dealer network is 2nd to none. Not all are good. Broke tie rod in ND. There was one dealer in Minot and another in Bismarck. Minot was 50 miles away. Guy took order and left it under dumpster. Got ride and changed it that evening myself. Also watch water temp in mountains. They are prone to overheat. Will cut out if you let it get over about 220. But they will get the job done and are cheap to get into. Most drivers I have talked to like new Volvos, but gripe about elec issues on older ones.

No not governed . Can turn it up to 5 or 515 hp I think but owner is happy right where it is. Never been on Donner. it is just like the rest. How you drive makes as much difference as any thing.Once I leave say Denver it is all downhill to me. I will run 70-75 and still get about 6.5-7. Makes up for eating it the other way doing 65 max coasting as much as possible and any thing else I can think of and getting5-maybe 6. I would find a 13 speed if I was going to get one of my own. I know I could do better on hills with it.

Because Freightliner owns Detroit and Western Star and Volvo is not about to make them rich buying engines from them you can special order it with one
