For you guys that have bought or run a brand new Freightliner, how is warranty work done? Do you have to go to a dealership to have it done and is there a long downtime or can you go to a mechanic you trust?

my company has leased trucks thru Penske. we drop them off at penske, they drop them off at the dealership. sometimes it takes us a week to get our trucks back, sometimes it can be 3 months...no kidding.
but that's on my end of it, i'd hope an o/o gets a better turn around time.
as for warranty work, i can only say that the warranty will be honored by a dealership only. -
When you drop the truck off at Penske they of course give you another truck to use while yours is being repaired correct?
-
yes, by our contract, we get a free rental loaner truck..i am not sure an o/o gets such a deal, unless that was in the sales contract.
-
If you don't mind me asking, how many trucks does your company have?

I’ve had several Freightliners. They have been great as far as taking care of warranty work and not trying to weasel out of paying for it, no matter where I went all over North America.
I had an a/c problem they fixed five times over three years, after the warranty expired it went in again and this time they actually found the real problem. I did have to pay for it at the time of pickup, but I saw the warranty rep later, they looked it up on their records and did reimburse me for it.
Another I changed the starter myself as the dealer couldn’t get me in for four days. They did cover the starter, but I supplied the labour.
Best if they look at it themselves.Dave_in_AZ and AModelCat Thank this. -
With a new Freightliner how much work did you have to have done on it in the first few years?
-
We have a satellite dealer locally that does warranty om Freightliner, too close to the competition to have Freightiner on the sign. Normally fast unless they don't have needed parts in stock. Parts may need shipping from a depot next day in other paces, most waiting I have done is for parts to arrive
Normally don't get loaners through the dealership, but leased trucks are through the lease company. Warranty can be decent , most likely through the selling dealer, but many do take care of it in a timely manner no matter what. There are places I have been told about that may not. -
Being that its warranty work you HAVE to take it to a dealer. There is the odd exception like @uncleal13 had but that usually is only given to guys the dealership has a good and long term relationship with. Its not exactly an everyday thing from my experience.
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Why are you asking?
