My freinds wife just passed her cdl they are going to start driving team. :biggrin_2556: My question is they are only a few companys that will let him train her and they want to pay her less than him(understandable)so how does the company know who's driving ? (is this just an honor system) :biggrin_255: :biggrin_25515: Neither one wants to go somewhere that she would have to go with another trainner. He has over 15 years as a safe driver. They were thinking of going to prime any better solutions?

Prime would NOT be my first choice. Maybe Kennesaw, or East-West, maybe even US Express, but not prime. There are quite a few team companies in georgia. Good Luck.....

    It depends on the company.

Some allow a husband to train, others (most) don't.

The wife will work at the reduced training pay rate. The husband may or may not get trainer pay during this time.

Others will split the pay. An example: Team makes .44 a mile. Trainee/Student is paid .17 a mile. They will split .39 a mile for all intents and purposes. With his pay being based on .22 a mile for all miles covered, and hers at .17 a mile for all miles covered.

While others will simply use the log books to determine each drivers pay, based on actual miles driven. It really doesn't matter with a husband/wife team. Since all funds are combined in the end for most couples.**

** While some may figure they can work the "pay" by reflecting more miles on the husband. they only extend the training miles out further for the wife. Extend it too far...and they may be out of a job.

Thanks Danc694u he had asked me how this worked and i really didn't know. I do that prime did tell them that he could train her so i think thats why they are looking that way . Just wasn't sure on how they paid him/her with really not knowing who was driving.

He really needs to sit down and speak to a recruitor.

There are so many variables in this. They could actually lose money if he trains her. I've seen it happen.

    As an example:

His pay as experienced SOLO driver = .38 a mile

Her pay as a student = .17 a mile while in training with another company trainer.

He could get .19 a mile for every mile the truck moves, half his solo rate. She could get .085 for every mile, half the training rate.

That equals only .275 per mile total. You have to be extremely careful when asking for this kind of deal at a company. And look at the whole picture.

    Bucktrucker Thanks this.

I know Marten did allow this for a guy who went through orientation with us. He was just getting hired by them and had a good amount of years driving, and his wife had just gotten her CDL. He had to go through the trainer training first. Not sure what all it entailed. But they did hire them both, and him as a trainer with the understanding that he would only ever train his wife after which they would be hired as a straight team.

    Bucktrucker Thanks this.
