That's a very good point.

You cant dis anyone doin what you say above cause ya know what..Think of cell phones......Not that one is right or wrong but its a different tool we have that has the same effect..Its a hard way to learn when your watchin a cb or cell and swerve and take yourself off the road or hit someone but cell or radio makes no diff..
-
OH yes I can, what's worse than a cb'er truck driver playing with the knobs on his radio and swerving all over the road?
It is a ham truck driving trying to talk to someone on 40 meters tuning the radio and playing with the dials.
I rank them higher on the list than women texting their kids who are sitting in the back seat watching some dvd.Neverready Thanks this. -
When I had my icom in the truck I thought I would do a lot of ssb work while riding. Found I did very little because traffic was usually too thick to be messing with knobs and buttons for fine tuning. Most of the time I would just snag those that happened onto frequency I already was on. I would preset a frequency with a net I liked and monitor. Was good for killing time waiting to unload or load.

Because all those extra knobs and meters look cool. It's all about the looks. That's why they still have chrome knobs, chrome faces and sometimes chrome cases.
But I know what you mean. Sometimes when not on 11 and above or below the legal 40, it helps to know where you're at. That's why I preach to people.....
....That "band" switch, can put you in hot water. When you're on channel 19 and you flip it from D up 2 clicks to F, it usually (but not always) puts you on 28.085 MHz. Then when you start talking on that frequency in voice, it tells all of the retired hams who get their jollies off on Fox hunting intruders, that someone that shouldn't be there, IS there. Then they call up their ham buddies and they detect where you're transmitting from, and zero in on you, get your truck number, turn it into the FCC, and you (or your employer) gets a nice cease and desist letter in the mail, with the warning of a fine if you don't cease talking there.
So having the frequency meter can be a bit of a help to keep people off of the 10 meter band so the hams can tap out code without interference from someone else not using code.
Provided of course your peaked and tweaked radio isn't really a snipped and clipped radio with the traps wide open to where you are transmitting on 20 different frequencies at once, to include 10 meters, but that's another subject. -
You know most of those guys tune by ear right?
-
Most guys on a diff freq are not gonna be in the area long...Unless your being a dik,no one will do squat..
Dont know why hammys get so bent outta shape....Im sure hammys go to the 11 meter or any other and clown it up.. -
Who?
Ham radio operators?
NO they do not. -
Craig, my post is a bash against some of them who think they can drive, operate the radio and carry on a conversation within the car. It is an old joke that I heard back in the early 70's, two worst drivers on the road are women and ham radio operators, neither of them can stay in their lanes.Neverready Thanks this.
