85000 for your house in California? You couldn't pay me to move.

If you do keep the house.

I know your not interested in Florida.

Just telling you I am in a similar boat. Want to live somewhere warm most of the time but not hot and humid.

And not a ton of people migrating in record numbers towards it.

That's part of the problem. Even Modesto is getting congested, and I am bored as hell here.
I need a bigger house, better environment, etc.
I won't be able to afford retiring in CA, if at all. I am 53 and need to plan for the future.
Only got so many productive years left, and I am not able to save much here.
Utilities are insanely expensive here. 100 bucks mo just for water and garbage.
I figure no matter where you go, they get your money some how.
Just would be nice to be in a more pleasant area.

If your bored with California you are going to be really bored with the rest of the United States.

    It's expensive all over.

Water bill here is 60 bucks a month bare minimum . Insurance for your house is nuts.
Property taxes go up and up.
    Groceries are a joke.
I spend more money on food than anything. I am a single guy.if I had to feed a family of 4 I would need 300 a week for groceries.

Welcome to what used to be middle class.

    You have wife and kids?

I am 52 myself ,looking at being 80 and not being able to work anymore and not have enough saved to support myself is a tough pill.

That's the main reason I left Nashville area and moved to Las Vegas. Might get a good linehaul job with Estes or Old Dominion in Vegas.
Found my house on www.propertyVEGAS.com and www.Zillow.com
The lady that has the propertyVEGAS website worked very hard to help us find what we wanted in an area that is satisfactory for us.

You can drive for Uber when you're 80 to supplement social security.
I save a lot on groceries; wait until the grocery store is crowded; put some stuff in the buggy, then munch on stuff until I'm full; then go home. Just leave the cart sitting in the aisle. It's a creative way to save on food.

I am 52 and I don't want to drive for Uber. And I am a halfway sociable guy.

30 years dealing with parasail customers, the public sucks. Used to be nice people 15 years ago, now selfish ### wipes.

    No thank you

I want to sit in a truck and hate them now.

All you can eat buffet is what it is, but it's free. Cut through the deli for a box of potato wedges, some baked beans and fried chicken, then top it off with free donuts.

I was kidding about Uber anyway. You can retire in Philippines on just social security and live pretty good. There's a social security office in Manila.
I don't do too well dealing with the public either. I'd go insane on a cruise ship.
The solitude of the trucking life was a good fit.
