From Day One - Abilene Motor Express (Richmond, Wytheville, VA)

Always nice to see that someone else who is not in the trucking business is able to see what some of us go through while on the road.

Back when I first got married my wife would ride with me when I worked for a different company but now that we have kids it would be hard for her to ride with me. With the company I am at now we have a no rider policy. Probably a good thing because I am used to being by myself on the road we would probably argue all the time.

 

How often can she ride with you? Glad she enjoyed the trip but how would she have taken it if she had the Ohio Turnpike last week when that snow storm came in? I was up there on Thursday and Friday delivering and a lot of people went in the ditch as well as the wall and other trucks. It was not fun and I was glad to make it to my final delivery from Millersburg Oh. to Jonesville Mi. with only 9 windows on the trailer. Very interesting trip.

 

Hello again from NC. ScooterDawg got me home safe and sound yesterday morning but I knew he would. He was determined to get me home in time so that I could go with my daughter to a Bridal Show. For some reason he didn't seem interested in joining us for that. I am back in my work zone as a Speech-Language Pathologist now but sure did enjoy being in your working environment for the short time that I got to ride with S.D. I really did enjoy riding along and learning about the trucking industry. I know I only got a taste of what your life is really like on a daily basis and I don't think that I would be crazy about riding on the slippery roads up north but the route we took to California and back was awesome. Thanks again for everything you do as a Trucker and keep up the good work!

Does anyone know if there is parking near the Advanced Auto dc in Delaware, OH? Or if they allow you to take your 10 there?

 

Been getting great miles lately. Thank you, Walter! And, for the past week, I've been getting preplanned before delivering. What in the world? Oh, and today not only did I get my next load info before delivering, I got the next one as well. What? Wow!!! I'm covered all the way thru Tuesday morning. Now I just have to watch my hours so I can get it all done. Running off recap until home time Friday.

Have the hubby on the truck since just before Xmas and it has been a blast. It's nice to have someone around, especially when that person is easy on the eyes! LOL I will miss him when he gets off at home time. We finally got a routine going and now it's going to be difficult to go back to being alone. But, he will be riding every other 2 weeks. Our animals at home (both the 2 & 4 legged) need attention. Hahaha

 

Scooter D.'s Girl here checking in from the great state of NC. I am missing my Trucker quite a bit after having been on the road with him such a short time ago. I do have a concern I want to express that I am sure affects many of you out there reading this. I know that the companies and their bosses have a job to do in regards to shipping and receiving from anywhere and everywhere. I know I am also inept at knowing all of the what this job entails from the top of the company down to dispatchers, loaders drivers, etc. However, I am extremely concerned about the lack of concern regarding a driver's schedule, assignments and hours/days on the road without a short break at home to recharge before going out again. A company should treat their drivers with the same concern and respect they would use with their own son, daughter, sister, brother or parent if it was their family member they were sending out on these insane assignments over and over again. I know my words would fall on deaf ears to those that this concern would actually apply, however, I just want you truckers to know that from an outsider's viewpoint, you do not get the respect and care you so greatly deserve. I don't see that changing anytime soon with irregular route OTR van freight. It gets better in other more specialized sectors. I pull a tanker with mostly out and back dedicated freight and am rarely out more than 3 nights at a time these days.
