Not for nothing, but just in case anyone else sees this: the Will Rogers Turnpike (I-44 from Tulsa to Joplin) tore out all its off-exit toll booths and closed off the on-road toll booths back in December.
Provided the Bailey Turnpike (I-44 from Wichita Falls TX - OKC has done the same (I haven't been past Norman going west in years), then all of Oklahoma's toll roads are officially cashless...

BTW: Hi, hows it going? I got knocked out of driving in January. Cardiovascular disease. 3 months in the hospital. 6 surgeries, 8 stints put in me. Been declared severely disabled by social security. A shame...had a great job, dedicated, coast to coast, Hazmat run. Lookout pass became a sweet spot in my heart. Only time to chain up they couldn't keep up. My boss had me run with socks. They are great! On and off so fast!
BTW: To the OP. I'd rather run I70 through Colorado during a storm than anywhere. They work their tails off maintaining that freeway. They got mucho megabucks up there in the form of Snow Bunnies. They gotta keep it going. So what you might have to chain up. It ain't dangerous like I80 through Wyoming. ...Also...want to avoid chaining up I70 in winter? Just plan to hit Eisenhower tunnel at noon. As long as you're not in a snowstorm. You will never have to chain up. I know, running across to Gypsum CO constantly during winter. None of us had to chain up like this. If you wonder about HWY 6 going from I70 up to Salt Lake. It's excellent. That guy does a great job of maintaining that road.
Also to the OP: During winter. Take it slow. Take it easy. Take it steady. The idea is to get there in one piece. Forget getting there fast.
Also I loved running the North East in winter. They are good at taking care of their roads. Has to be really bad before you have to chain up.Last edited: Aug 27, 2025

. I remember u mentioning a couple years back about that job in Montana was wondering if u ever rolled with it. I sure miss doing that work sometimes. A cup of hot coffe and the click clack rhythm of snow chains pulling lookout pass in the early mornings has become a great memory of mine, even know at the time it didn't seem like it... I left Montana and went back home to AZ to start my own authority and seek greener pastures. Well long story short I'm back as a company driver again. Trying to find my way again. Guess I should've never left the sweet gig I had up there, but whats a guy to do other than keep fighting and pushing forwardSpeed_Drums, ‘Olhand and WesternPlains Thank this. -
I spend most my time in Politics. Not good for my mental health. Gets me mad.
I do better than most with Social Security Disability. It's because I made so much for so long. Even then...hoping when I turn 67 that I'll be doing good enough to sit behind the cash register at Pilot. Make more. This ain't nothing like my pay driving. I actually contributed to social security and medicare for 50 years. I've been literally raping Medicare. Don't make me feel bad.
Best part of my job going through Montana. I had the ability to stop. Fly fish for a day. Then make it home before continuing after a 34.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
