My own opinion get that thing out of there as fast as you can. Take it to an independent shop.

Don't let them do anything don't let them touch it don't let them do anything they can charge you for get it out of there now.

Any place that's going to charge you 1500 to replace a seal get the hell away from them right now at this instant and have nothing to do with them at all.

Even if you had water in there it doesn't mean that your rear is destroyed.

This is why you see giant dealerships that have 10 Bay garages on 20 acres of ground and the owners are billionaires because of crap like this.

I know of a shop that's about an hour from there if you're interested p.m. me.

$1500 is seals, brake shoes (completely coated in oil) and drums. Drums are near DOT spec.

As far as time, already have a week into this garbage. Like all of us, have to get back on road.

Reason you don’t buy Volvo Junk, they are junk trucks. Throw away trucks. Dealt with that crap for years as a shop Forman for a fleet of 450 Volvo junkers

Where was the damage on that ring gear? I didn't really see anything there that was concerning.

I would question this to. I could understand installing a bearing kit as proactive and a very close inspection. Pretty low milage for a replacement. Shoes, drums and wheel bearing are a given.

Pattern looks ok and that frosting is normal. Unless there are pieces missing, large pits, cracks or evidence of spalling I see no reason to condem that gear.

    Your right,
Think dealer is a bit ambitious to sell a new Diff. Truth be told they will probably clean it up check the bearings and pinion depth and reuse it while they charge you for a new one. Shyster dealers will do that and have caught it done in the past.
