Pipe wrench on the square plug, yeah 75w90 will do. I topped one up with some straight 50 weight synthetic trans oil the other day ago because it's what I had on hand in a 5 gallon bucket. About 7 or 8 pumps of it. They wanted like $50 a gallon for the 75w90 at auto zone, etc.

75/90 synthetic is the "correct" oil, but if you are going to have them drain and reseal it, no harm in putting in the cheapest 80/90 you can find. Especially for just another 500 miles

Like someone else said check the vent/breather if that's plugged it'll start pushing oil out of places

Might want to take a look inside the brakes/drums from the backside. May have a leaking wheel seal. Might be seeping just a bit. Sometimes they’ll leak, and quit for a while. You’ll see oil around the center, where the hub meets the axle. Might be completely blown out, and leaking badly. If so, it’ll be all wet, brake shoes soaked, and an OOS order if inspected. The front pinion seal, behind the yoke that the u joint bolts to is another common failure point. If the oils real low, I’d drain it. The drain plug has a magnet on it. Check for pieces of metal. Check the drain pan for metal. Stick your finger inside and feel for metal. Fine tiny tiny metal shavings on the magnet is normal. Refill with synthetic 75-90. O Reilly’s has a good product, at a decent price. $170 for 5 gallon I believe. Just did both of mine. Front was pretty low. I’m not worried about it. It didn’t fall apart, probably won’t now that the oils new and up to full. They’re pretty tough. The way to destroy one is by spinning the wheels in snow, mud, or a large pothole. When stuck in a pot hole, steep dock, snow or mud, hold the foot brake so it stops spinning, lock in the power divider, pull out of the hole, dock or ? Then stop first and unlock it. Always works for me. I have destroyed one once, by spinning my way out of a frozen dock. Live and Learn. I doubt you damaged anything. Just keep it full. I’ll do the same. Lol.
