Several years ago when I lived in an apartment, I came home after work one day and there was a note taped to the front door of the building. "Whoever's spraying WD40 into the locks, please stop. The locksmith says it's ruining the mechanism." So there's another vote against WD.

iv gotten into frozen locks before by taking a bic heating the key and then inserting into the lock repeating a couple times and then it will unlock. works in a pinch, if your a smoker you always have a lighter in your pocket

Starting to think its a wise idea to keep one with you even if you aren't a smoker. (I'm not. But I've encountered times it'd be handy to have one all the same.)
