i rmeber balling up my tarps and just strapping um to the deck in a big pile because they were to iced to even think about folding. My method that didnt work to well was swing my winch bar like a bat and breck off big chunks atr a time.

Been decades since I helped my O/O brother tarp loads, I'm a door swinger now. However, in the interim I worked helping design and produce products for major retailers and brand name companies. Most of it was retail goods, some of it was for industrial use.
For a while I worked on projects related to tarps and tarp material. The biggest bugaboo is that almost all tarp material is PVC based, and unless you mix the right chemicals in the batch of PVC it can become brittle and shatter in cold temperatures. Some of my clients had specifications for pliability up to -40ºF, which is a very tall order.
Does anyone make tarps that stay pliable and shatterproof in extreme cold? That might be part of the solution for tarps that can't be folded during the winter. They will probably cost quite a bit more than standard PVC tarps, but would certainly be worth it for cold weather. -
Well it depends...if the load require dunnage I usually take my breaker bar and bus the ice up where I need to put my boards at...once you throw your chains or straps and tighten in down that load not going anywhere but to thr place you have to drop it off at
